Gawain 0 #1 January 28, 2003 I've not a read a lot of background on this case, so I don't have an opion yet. Who else has an opinion...I know you're out there Clicky ArticleSo I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! mujie96 0 #2 January 28, 2003 He was a lonely Air Force dork with an active imagination. Maybe he couldn't have done that much damage but he deserves what he gets for even pretending. We get so many opportunities as Americans and this is his way of serving his country? Just keep swimming...just keep swimming....
Zenister 0 #3 January 28, 2003 actually he could have done quite a bit. any info about system capabilities above and beyond what is commercially published can result in increased risk and increased casualties...luckily he was an idiot. based on the 'admitedly limited' info i've seen he's certainly guilty. (his lawyers arent even arguing he didnt do it, they are trying to play up the 'no harm done, silly mistake' angle) it may seem harsh but i personally hope they fry him. actions should have consequences.____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. BikerBabe 0 #4 January 28, 2003 They won't fry him. They didn't give Robert Hanssen the death penalty, and what he did was much, much worse. They will offer him a deal (if convicted): tell us everything you gave up in exchange for life in prison. Regan probably gave away technology secrets. Hanssen gave away agents' lives (among other things). In Hanssen's case, they could pinpoint several deaths of field agents that were caused by Hanssen giving the names up to the Russians. I would highly doubt that they will be able to do the same for Regan (yes, I understand that loss of tech secrets can cause loss of life, but it would be exceedingly difficult to name names). He's probably guilty, but the death penalty is a slim-to-none chance in this case. That's mostly media hype.Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! Zenister 0 #5 January 28, 2003 he never made significant contact (as far as i'm told) and therefore has nothing to bargin with. Your right Hanssen was much more damaging, and much more successful, but they traded his life for counter info.. not really honorable, but nessesary. This guy has no info to offer, but had a clear intent. I would think they would use him as an example, but of course that wont happen. We're far to kind hearted when things are out in the open like this.____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. Guest #6 January 28, 2003 I think he should be tried, but it shouldn't be on a capital charge. To put him in the same category as the Rosenbergs is a disgrace, considering that Aldrich Ames and John Walker did far, far worse and are still twitchin'. Walker got two life terms plus ten years. He's still in the Max at Marion, IL."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
