Gawain 0 #1 January 29, 2003 Click here to read a BBC essay on the drivers peripheral to the oil argument and the US actions in the middle east. This would fit nicely into the "Iraq? It's the oil stupid" thread, but this is worth a fresh slate. It's a short read.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! blewaway5 0 #2 January 29, 2003 I do like the BBC. It's nice to get a relatively unbiased opinion on world politics. Notice the relatively. Anyway, I think it has a pretty valid point. Truman Sparks for President
AggieDave 6 #3 January 29, 2003 Good read, made some good points very simply and clearly for everyone to understand well. Unlike some things I've read about this topic which seem to try to confuse you with rhetoric (from both sides). QuoteIt is prepared to withstand the temporary outrage of the international community along the way. And if necessary, it is prepared to do it alone. The last paragraph summed things up.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
sharpfive 0 #4 January 29, 2003 Thanks for that. BBC is a great source for news and intelligent analysis. Our media in the U.S. could learn a lot from them.

Och, I'm sure the Beeb could do with some pointers on basic things like grammar from you guys."In the Commons, Mr Blair said he had chosen his words carefully in telling MPs last week that there was no evidence of no links between al-Qaeda and 11 September. " It appealed to my sense of humour anyways...From the beeb here..http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/2703335.stm -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Gawain 0 #7 January 29, 2003 QuoteThanks for that. BBC is a great source for news and intelligent analysis. Our media in the U.S. could learn a lot from them. Well, I sorta agree with that. I read the BBCi web-site regularly, and what impresses me more than anything is the depth of the site, and the fact that you can find anything-about-anything on there. As for their "position" on issues, they vary, just like the US press. The link I provided was something I found while perusing the "UK Edition"...don't know if it's available from the "World Edition"So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! SpeedRacer 1 #8 January 29, 2003 What's interesting about the "it's ALL about the oil" chanters is this: Suppose I were a rich and amoral oil magnate. My first choice would be to leave Saddam in power & lift the sanctions. I don't care if he oppresses his people as long as he keeps a tight control over Iraq, silences all dissent & keeps my oil coming.
