Lizard 0 #1 January 30, 2003 Stopped by my parents house last night to say hello, let them know I'm still alive ect.... I get there and my sister and nieces/nephew were there. They are all in the living room with my mom's dog. A red poodle about 12yrs old. Poor dog had his head buried in the sofa shaking/scared and my dad and sis are making fun of how ugly and stupid he is. All the while my mom is defending the dog. "Stop it! He knows your making fun of him!" Of course my dad and sis are laughing and talking funny to him. I'm not close to the dog, never did really like him that much, but I felt so bad for him. The dog was scared to death and according to my mom, this happens on a regular basis. Should I adopt the dog? Bring him home to get him out of that enviornment? I know all this sounds stupid, but I feel bad for the dog and am actually ashamed of my family for thinking the crap is funny, not to mention they have nothing better to do with their time than pick on a old poodle. JDBoston 0 #3 January 30, 2003 Well, in my experience most dogs don't understand English so you can safely make fun of them without fear of hurting their feelings. If the dog is afraid of the people it lives with, there are probably deeper issues than whether it thinks they're making fun of it. Just a few thoughts. Sebazz1 2 #4 January 30, 2003 Yup, your dad and sis are idiots. You need to save the dog. Animals are way more intelligent than people realize.
Andie787 0 #5 January 30, 2003 That's not a nice way to spend the last year or so of life, is it? I say bring the dog home and make your parents pay the inevitable vet bills. Old poodles are deaf and crap on the floor. But I think this dog would be grateful to get away. Andie
Lizard 0 #6 January 30, 2003 I'm sure the dog knows whats going on. I've seen him in my dads lap asleep. No problems, not scared of my sis ect. But when they start this funny talking crap, he gets scared and runs to my mom or hides. The dog isn't stupid.
blewaway5 0 #7 January 30, 2003 Um, the dog's scared of people who talk funny? Maybe I'm a little callous, but I'd laugh at that too. Truman Sparks for President

wildblue 7 #9 January 30, 2003 QuoteThe dog isn't stupid. Let me get this right - they make fun of him, and 'talk funny' to him, and it gets scared and buries its head in the sofa?it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

Lizard 0 #12 January 30, 2003 Maybe the dog is a little stupid and maybe it is a little funny, but really no different than being scared of a vaccum cleaner or something. He knows they are f*cking with him.
jtval 0 #13 January 30, 2003 ah well there is a difference between being cruel and just playing with your dog. body language Says ALOT. you can say anything to you dog if you say it is a soothing tone. but if you say nice things with a angry body posture THATS what the pet will pick up on.My photos My Videos
