Forget all the skin cancer bullshit - people have been out in the sun for thousands of years and you haven't read about them bitching about skin cancer OR acne, have you? Gawain 0 #7 January 30, 2003 I inherited pretty severe acne from my dad. I had a terrible complexion through my mid-twenties. I tried every treatment with a dermatologist (anti-biotics, cortizone shots, some dermabrasion). Finally, it was "Custer's Last Stand" for me. I underwent six months of Accutane treatment. Now you can barely tell I ever had a zit in my life (I still get one here or there, but nothing like I used to). Now, if you still get fairly bad cases, you may want to ask your doctor about it. I'd recommend it to anyone who suffers from pretty severe acne (painful even!). Be ware! Accutane has heavy restrictions on its distribution, and has pretty serious side-effects. If you're female, you must agree to go on contraceptives and participate in a study (fatal birth defects). I had to submit blood tests every three weeks to monitor my liver, cholesterol levels and other stuff that doctors care about. It dehydrates you like a raisin and I suffered from regular dry-nose/dry-ear bleeds, cracked lips, dry eyes and the first half of treatment saw my complexion get worse! It was all worth it. edit: added junk... So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! indyz 1 #8 January 30, 2003 I went to a dermatologist who recommended medication. I decided not to because the worst that happened to me was a few small scars around my nose. Other than that, it's just a social thing and doesn't really bother me.

So yeah the one pimple on your neck sucks but you could just have plain old bad skin, like moi. Just keep swimming...just keep swimming....

Gawain 0 #14 January 31, 2003 Quote... and 4 courses of Accutane-my skin still looks like crap. ... Based on my then-cystic-condition and my dermotologist's reaction before treatment, I would dare to submit that your dermotologist needs to reexamine dosage, and length of treatment. My course was 60mg/AM and 40mg/PM every day, six-months straight. My sister on the otherhand had a slightly milder condition, despite that, her course was four months, 40mg/AM, 40mg/PM during the first three months, pared down to 20mg/AM 20mg/PM for the final month. I hope it wasn't the same doctor, and hope another solution will arise for you. As I recall my doctor telling me, Accutane seems to work better, the worse the acne condition. Cystic or nodular (often painful) conditions all over the face, neck, chest, back are the prime targets. I could be wrong though. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! skip 0 #15 January 31, 2003 QuoteI underwent six months of Accutane treatment Ohh and what a 6 months it was. I also spent 6 or so months dancing with Accutane and damn that was miserable, but as you said that shit works. Not only did it cure my sever acme problem, for that six months I was a cheep date; one beer and I was down and out for the night. Wow but do I owe my parents for that, I had an abnormal case of acme and they totally understood and came through big time. .:skip
mujie96 0 #16 January 31, 2003 80 mg a day, damn close to the max dose for my weight. I can no longer afford dermatologists, luckily my skin is slightly more mature now, although still not great. Some of just have bad genes, I suppose. Just keep swimming...just keep swimming....
