Cleveland, Ohio DZ's

OK......I have read the propaganda on the internet. Someone give me the REAL poop on DZ's closest to Cleveland. That's right kids.....in a few months I'll be moving there....B|

I know you're moving to Ohio to be closer to me;) but i hate to burst your bubble, I'm not staying in Ohio much longer...

Seriously, why are you moving to Cleveland?!? are you crazy or something.

As for the dz's close by... I've been to AerOhio a couple times and to Cleveland Sport Parachute Club several times. I like CSPC for it's friendly people and good vibe... They host a good boogie called the Goodtime Boogie in July, definately worth hitting for a weekend... AerOhio is a little bigger and flies and Otter in the Summer, also hosts RW competitions sometimes if you're into that.

check them both out, see which one fits ya.

peace

Clay... look up Dengopher some this summer. He lives up there and is making SGC his second DZ and had plans to come down a lot this next summer, see about tagging along ;) Casa all summer at SGC and Super Otter if its gone (big boo hooo that we have to down grade to a super otter ;):P)

As for the planes CSPC is flying the Westwind from SGC (ask the pilot about his lost toe :P) and their Cesnna next summer and Aerohio has the -34 Otter and a Cesnna 182. I've never jumped at CSPC but I've met the owner and a lot of the jumpers and I really liked the vibe they gave off, Aerohio and I had a difference of opinions on a few things when I was there (similar situation to you and ASC ;))

I've only been to Cleveland once, but from what I could gather it seemed like a cool little city. Good luck! ;)

So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Clay, you can always just make the drive over to Illinois for some jumping...it's not that far....

No worries there. Clay has already promised me that he'd be coming to IL to visit me a few times this summer. I guess i can share him with you too.:P

I see you haven't dropped that crack habit yet...

The Chicago dzs are about 4-5 hours away...just let me know if you ever plan on hitting them so I can hide! ;):P

Yep...I'm infatuated with getting in that elusive jump.B| Seriously.....I got a KICK ASS job. Had to move there. I'll definately be coming to SGC and Chicago on a regular basis in the warm months. During the winter I'll be making multiple trips to Florida, Arizona, and California. So....I'll be seeing lots of people from now on!!! B|

Why dude, Cleveland sucks.

Anyways, the closest DZ is Cleveland Sport Parachute Club is the closest, have that 'club' feel, and fly 'club' planes. (read: last time I was there, a piston twin-bo, and twin beach). Aerohio is abit further drive (i guess it depends where you live in the city thought). Aerohio is a profesionally run DZ, with top notch instructors, beautiful planes, etc.

Give them both a try, and pick for yourself. For me, Once I went to Aerohio I never went back to Parkman (cspc).

CSPC had a gear up landing with the Twin-bo so they don't fly it anymore. They are flying a Westwind Beech next summer again. Twin -20 turbine that holds 14 and will be at 13k in about 11 minutes. They also frequently have CSS planes in for weekends and boogies (read Casa and Super Otter). Aerohio has their really fast otter and a 182, I think they are teaming up with another DZ though to provide more aircraft for their boogie. Bob Gates is about as professional as they come so I'm not sure what you are impling there Andy. They are a full USPA DZ (as if that means anything) with course directors on staff. Not to mention they have that cool VR Simulator (I know you want to try and fly that VX 46 there Clay ;)) They might not have a brand new hanger or whatever...but I liked the vibe from their crew better then the vibe from Aerohio when I was there.

Clay, drop me a PM on when you are moving up here... I'm in Columbus and have a few bottles of stuff we can kill :P

I made that mistake... Moved to Cleveland for a job that paid nearly double my last one, but ended up leaving after a year. I found the city depressing, and moved to Chicago.

I hope you have better luck.

I belong to CSPC (home DZ). CSPC is very laid back. No real cliques (except of course freeflying vs. the bellyflyer thing). No problem finding a group to jump with. I've never been to Aerohio even though it is only half the distance as CSPC from me. I've heard that it is not as "homey" and laid back as CSPC. I've heard that from quite a few people so I tend to still make the hour drive to CSPC. That is just hearsay though, so i can't comment on exactly what Aerohio is like. Bob Gates at CSPC is about as professional as they come. His DZ has been in his family since the 50's. Give both the DZ's a try. I'm sure you will make your mind up rather quickly. Where are you planning on moving to in Cleveland. Let me know and I can steer you in the right direction as far as living arrangements (location to the city). Also, what job are you going to be doing here in Cleveland. Lemme know when you are coming in and I will Get a weekend off and show you around.
