Rdutch 0 #3 February 4, 2003 Im curious as to what American food is? Please post back and let me know what is on the menu. I have a friend that moved to Iceland and she was all excited to go to "The American restaurant" in rejavik. She was dissapointed because all that was on the menu was Hamburgers and Fries. I'm sure with all the burger Kings and Mcdonalds over here we could be thought of as burger eating feind's but really I dont think of the Hamburger as the all american food. But still dont know what is. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!

Yeah, the notion of an "American" restaurant beyond fast food seems bizarre. I mean, there are regional foods here, such as clam chowder, BBQ, and cajun cooking, but I can't think of anything that is American besides fast food. billvon 3,120 #7 February 4, 2003 >but I can't think of anything that is American besides fast food. I think we have a lot of them. Our microbrew industry is starting to rival Germany's, and California wines are now known the world over. We have a lot of hybrid cuisines - Tex-mex, New York deli, cajun, and a bunch of odd regional ones (like the Montana prairie oyster festival, Appalachian cuisine, even the Portland microbrewery cuisine, which is almost as much about food as it is about beer.) I think in some ways we're too big to have one national cuisine. Appalachia, Boulder and Los Angeles are more different from each other than Belgium and Luxembourg are in terms of food. Deuce 1 #8 February 4, 2003 Mequite grilled just about anything. Salmon, chicken, steak. mmmmm. And I'm thinking the only thing that's really different about American Restaurants is that the portions are way too freaking big. Best meal I ever ate was in Rome. Took about 5 hours. Ooooh. Carpaccio.

jfields 0 #12 February 4, 2003 There are plenty of foods that are uniquely American, and not even regional. Twinkies. CheezWhiz. Lunchables. Spam. Pop Rocks. Mmm. Shelf-stable crap. I need to go to 7-11.
Skyrad 0 #13 February 4, 2003 Lets face it, although americans like to take the piss out of British food (even though most have never even heard of a Chicken Tikka masala.) American food is really just junk crap. (Except Pumpkin pie, damn that tastes good!) jfields 0 #14 February 4, 2003 Quotetake the piss out of British food (even though most have never even heard of a Chicken Tikka masala.) I found very little good food in Britain. Most of it came from their glory days of colonialism. The Indian food was quite good, but hardly representative of traditional British fare. But I'll take British beer over most American stuff any day. Most American food is pretty crappy these days. No argument there.
Muenkel 0 #15 February 4, 2003 What about roasted turkey, stuffing, various veggies and cranberry sauce. Very American. _________________________________________ Chris
