How do the Post Whores do it?

Recommended Posts

Alright, here ya go, this is a simple FAQ on how Post Whores (pw) can actually do what they do so well. This was compiled via actual questions, submitted via telepathy to the Central Post-Whore Committee.

Q: How do you respond so quickly to posts?

A: That requires lightening quick reflexes and a broadband connection (with constant Ctrl + R hits).

Q: How do you respond to so many different posts, seemingly at once?

A: You have to learn how to type fast, super fast, Clay could type 345 words a minute (no shit), thats why he's #1. You also have to have a total disregard for speelling, you do NOT have time for it!

Q: Do you do anything else besides post?

A: Sure do, I have many hobbies, I even skydive. The true PWs have a PDA with a Satilite phone that Bill Von invented, so we can continue to PW, even while doing other things.

Q: Can I have your number?

A: I get that a lot around here, aparently the ladies are really impress with how quick my fingers can move about the keyboard, but alas, no, I'm sorry, I am but one man and can't keep ALL the DZ.com skychicks happy.

Q: How much bandwidth do you actually use?

A: Well, the OC3 is being run to the house as we speak, but right now all I have are 2 T-1s, unfortunately. Basically, do the same thing to your bandwidth that the import crowd does to their exhaust: You must have a HUGE pipe, even if it does nothing.

Very nice - thanks for clearing that up for us all. :D I just looked at how many posts I've had since yesterday. No wonder I got nothing done at work or at home.

There is a factual statement. The last few days at work I have left feeling almost guilty at my lack of productivity. But my motto is:

I work just hard enough to keep them from firing me and they pay me just enough to keep me from quitting!

Oh - I don't feel that guily. I actually brought a little work home with me to do tomorrow - ARGH. That's what I get for slacking off. It was either that or go in real early Monday.

Gawd!! Imagine the possibilities. T1/DS1 = 24 64kbps channels (1.5Mbps). T3/DS3 = 28 T1s (45Mbps). OC3 = 3 DS3s (~130Mbps).

I had a customer upgrade from two DS3 to an OC12 SONET ring within 9 months. By the time the year was done they had 20 T1 channels left. An OC48 was in the works for them when I left for California...Wow!!!
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh

I should be so lucky to get to play with that kind of bandwidth. We have two T3's at my facility that is shared among 4000 people. Ugh.

I setup a fractional T1 at a branch location yesterday and was wondering how feasible it would be to con a hidden line to my house which was only 8 miles away from there.:)

I work for Verizon (ex-GTE), primarily "out-of-franchise" now, so I don't deal with a lot of local network anymore. Mostly IP/Frame/ATM, VPN, WANs, CPE, unregulated services, etc.

I'm in sales, so my life is far from boring. Sure looking forward to the release of jumping this weekend. ;)

For me early on a Monday means before noon. Leaving early on a Friday means Thursday at 5:00 pm.

Must be nice. I can't really complain. I work M-F 9:30-5:30. If I go in early it usually around 8 or so.

Bear in mind, my customer was only using one DS3 as a primary Internet port, and one more DS3 for backup. Onemore DS3 to a global Frame Relay network (primary WAN). The rest were T1 riders for voice too (6 PRIs).

Many companies (even heavy engineering co's with lots of CAD/CAM designes to share) are rarely pumping a pure fiber connect in a clear channel OC3c. I've never had a customer with anything bigger than a dedicated T3 for the Internet, very rare is the enterprise that needs to bond two of those together! ;)

Dude...you'll never get out of telecom...B|

We're doomed. Once it's in your blood...:S

The only consolation we have is that the world will always need wires on the back-end. Convergence is a joke, just remember to adapt. Hell, two years ago, I sold more CPE than anything. The past six months, IP, Frame, VPN and LD have reached near parity in activity. I think this is a good sign.

Yep, it's officially nuts. My dad works for SBC, and if rumors are correct aren't you guys picking up what's his name from them? Or he used to work for them, or whatever. Anyway, from what I've been hearing they almost expect telecomm to start having all kinds of mergers in the next few years. Well, I'm talking medium range future, like 10 or so years. Oh well, who cares when it's that far away?;)
