Im A Crappy Packer

Recommended Posts

Buddy of mine came over and showed me how to pack his rig(my first packing lesson) and told me I could hang onto it and practice while he works in Santa Monica training pilots. He called and had me check the date on the reserve. Its due for a repack and he asked me to drop it off for the repack.I reminded him who has been packing it and we agreed that it can wait til he comes back so that when its opened up they dont think that HE packs like that. He's gonna pack it.I shouldnt have reminded him,it would have been friggin hilarious .

just remember that your slider should be set a few feet back from the canopy, even better if you leave it collapsed:);););):D

I don't think most riggers pull the main canopy out of the d-bag - they just unhook the 3-ring and pull out the whole thing, so they can get at the reserve better. Unless you're embarrassed about the line-stows, no-one's gonna notice ;)

Just want to give props to hooknswoop, who, whilst repacking my reserve, did quite a bit on my rig that other riggers have not, including flexing the three-ring release on the main. Not trying to advertise here, but I have to say that there are some very cool riggers out there who genuinly care about the equipment, the sport and the poeple. I doubt any of them would give you a hard time about how you packed the main, but they might offer you some free advice on how to better pack it :P

You know, you don't *have* to pack...there are packing machines available. You can refer to my Packing Machine thread to see the current test model that is being tested at SD Aggieland...

I certainly hope that is not the case. I wouldn't dare to hook up a main-canopy after re-packing the reserve, without making sure the main is the right way around! In addition to that, I'm responsible for the airworthiness of the rig leaving my hands after a repack, which means I have to check that the main is in more or less jumpable condition.

We also have several models of packing machines being tested at Sky Knights, with more to come in the spring, including one I'll be importing personally from New York. Unfortunately, I can offer no pictures at this time. And the NY model is rather new, so it will be authorized to do nothing for skydivers except pack. (Even though it shows the potential.)
It's amazing what you can do with a $5.00 bill
