He has a large supply of different sized cubic bricks (8”, 10”, 11”, 12” bricks ) available to make a wall between two posts, and he wishes to use as few of these as possible. He starts the wall at one post using 8in (203.2mm) bricks and 8in gaps as shown. For strength each layer of bricks must overlap the layer below by at least one-quarter of the size of the brick below.
