The Pharaoh is fed up with his goat, which keeps breaking into the garden and eating all the figs. He's going to build a wall to keep the goat out. He has a large supply of different sized cubic bricks (8”, 10”, 11”, 12” bricks ) available to make a wall between two posts, and he wishes to use as few of these as possible. He starts the wall at one post using 8in (203.2mm) bricks and 8in gaps as shown. For strength each layer of bricks must overlap the layer below by at least one-quarter of the size of the brick below. At the 4th layer, what is the minimum possible distance between the first brick and the post?

Take one brick, slap the goat in the nuts every time he is caught pinching the figs, he'll soon learn...

By the way, can goats climb trees?
