jceman 1 #1 February 10, 2003 Someone to add to your prayer/vibe list: QuoteDAVIE, Fla. - A man was in critical condition this morning after his single-engine Cessna hit power lines and crash-landed on Interstate 75 near Fort Lauderdale. Frederick T. Brown of Davie was in intensive care at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, a nursing supervisor said. His daughter, Erica Brown, 18, was released from the hospital late Sunday. Frederick Brown, who owns the plane, told air rescue personnel the Cessna was experiencing engine failure before crashing Sunday around 3:45 p.m., officials said. The crash occurred near the I-75 Sheridan Street exit in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Davie. No one on the ground was injured, although traffic was shut down for about six hours after the accident because of debris and spilled fuel. The plane was returning to North Perry Airport from Clewiston, which is 66 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale. Walter Dix, a captain with Broward County Fire-Rescue, was on I-75 at the time, only three cars away from the crash scene. "I saw a single-engine plane come into view. It clipped power lines and crashed into the highway, just narrowly missing a couple of vehicles," Dix told The Associated Press by cell phone from the scene. "It was within about a foot of hitting another vehicle." Dix said a woman jumped out of the plane when it landed. Other drivers stopped to get the plane's male passenger out of the aircraft, which spewed smoke and leaked fuel, prompting fire concerns, Dix said. The National Transportation and Safety Board is investigating. BTW, yes this is the gal who got injured in the canopy collision at Marathon in November; she and the dogs are ok and doing fine. My last report is that Freddie has a broken hip and they "are concerned about" his leg. Other articles, including pix, are here. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. He and Erica were heading back home from the DZ at Clewiston. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
