Mad47 0 #1 February 10, 2003 Aaaaaaaaa ... My little convertible jet was hit in traffic combat Got rear ended trying to avoid the bigger mess on highway Lessons learned: 1) Honda's rule. Heavy ugly Chevy who cowardly hit me, got more damage than my lovely little convertible DelSol. 2) You better drive a freaking tank if you drive in Texas .... The funny part of the story was the first thought right after impact: "Ufffffffffffff ... thanks God I took the rig out of trunk"

I was going to pick up a friend to go to the DZ and assemble my brand-spankin' used rig, and I got hit in a damn parking lot. First thought - shit, I hope the gear's ok. Second thought - damn, I hope those folks are ok. Third thought - hrm, am I ok?! -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. Mad47 0 #7 February 10, 2003 Another interesting issue is influence of jumping on behavior on the road. Since I moved to Texas 5 years ago, I have been pulled over 13 times for all kinds of traffic violations and got 7 traffic tickets. Since I started to skydive less than a year ago, I was only pulled over once (doing 70mph on 55 on highway gimme a break). It is amazing that jumping actually makes you a safer driver. There is no need to speed up on highway if you can go much faster without a vehicle. However, safe driving doesn't guarantee complete safety ..
Push 0 #8 February 10, 2003 Yeah, no kidding. You just don't feel any more need to do stupid shit on the road. Lately I've been doing some really dumb stuff, like skidding on purpose on an icy road. You don't have to tell me, I knowIt seems that, during the jumping season, driving just becomes a way to go from point A to point B. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. AggieDave 6 #11 February 10, 2003 I drive a "tank" a 5,000lbs 4x4 Chevy 1/2 ton. I've only been hit once in it (*knock on wood*). All the little car did when he hit the rear of my truck (his fault) was break my nice A&M hitch cover. He tore the bumper off his car and caused over $3000 worth of damage. My hitch cover cost $30. That's what he gets when he tries to mess with a Texan's truck.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
newshooter12 0 #12 February 10, 2003 Don't feel too bad. My brother called me to tell me that my parents (Dad driving his car) got a deer about a 1.5 miles from home. My brother drove out to follow them home and make sure they were ok. The deer didn't do so well. An Officer had to shoot it. After work I drove in the driveway to see the crinkled hood and missing parts. A note on the counter said they got a 10 point buck. And my dad doesn't even hunt....matt

Thank goodness that everybody is okay. I hit a homo sapiens at about 50 mph a while back (not my fault). Somehow he lived through it, but my car was totalled. I was cut up and freaked out, but otherwise ok. I can't imagine what would have happened if it was a large deer.

newshooter12 0 #15 February 10, 2003 I got a small doe while I was in college. Sad part is that I saw it on the side of the road. Slowed down considerably. Saw it standing there off the shoulder. Slowed some more and as I was about to pass it it jumped out in front of me. Somehow didn't break either headlight, but crinkled the hood, bumper and grille. Scarier was having a deer run out infront of me on my motorcycle at night. No contact there though.matt
newshooter12 0 #16 February 10, 2003 I didn't and I don't think my parents did either. I passed where it happened when I came home, but didn't see it. Highway department must have picked it up quickly. I've heard of people taking them if they aren't too mangled, but not in my county. I think there is some rule about it. matt

LouDiamond 1 #22 February 10, 2003 I don't know what it is about deer but they cause a lot of damage. I saw a mid size car the other morning on the side of the road with the front end accordianed, I figured classic rear end job. However, about 25 feet from the car in the grass was a small(compared to Texas) 4 pointer. Now , I compare the damage to that car to the damage to the car I was a passenger in in an undisclosed country where we struck a 14 yr old boy on a bike, slightly head on/broadside and there is no logical reason for the differences in damageIMO. The vehicle I was in had a small dent on the front hood and on the roof where he caught some english and skidded off 90 degrees from the vehicle(I shit you not). The bike was mangled and under the vehicle but caused no damage other wise. The kid was OK, we took care of him and bought him full body X-rays for a whopping total of $7.00. We of course bought him a brand new Mt. bike and he was riding it a few days later. Unfortunatly, he was hit by a MACK truck two weeks later. I'm just kidding the last part didn't happenSo how is it bambi will wreck a mid size car and a human being causes parking lot dents? indyz 1 #23 February 11, 2003 Quote So how is it bambi will wreck a mid size car and a human being causes parking lot dents? Thing that make you go HMMM I guess it just depends on the accident. In my case, a human ruined the front bumper, crumpled the hood, busted in the windshield and collapsed the roof, among other things.
