Ifrinn 0 #1 February 11, 2003 standing for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System", our mobile network system are currently overloaded, so a new one was accepted. It said that in 2004 about 50% of the people are using it. "As a key member of the "global family" of third generation (3G) mobile technologies identified by the ITU, UMTS is the natural evolutionary choice for operators of GSM networks, currently representing a customer base of more than 747 million end users in over 180 countries and representing over 70% of today's digital wireless market [source: GSM Association]." http://www.umts-forum.org/servlet/dycon/ztumts/umts/Live/en/umts/What+is+UMTS_index Worldwide they agreed to us the same system, except the US. Gawain 0 #2 February 11, 2003 That's because the heavy favorite in the US, is CDMA based technology, 1XRTT, 3XRTT, W-CDMA and CDMA2000. All those technologies have far better capacity than GSM/TDMA based platforms and make better use of the spectrum. And, the CDMA based platform actually has an evolutionary path that will have the ability to meet ITU requested stadards of 2Mbps/384kbps/144kbps (stationary/portable/mobile). Where's BillVon? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
