US residents - for our "guys" over there

Recommended Posts

Another one of our dz.com family, lowpullin1, is off to places unknown very soon, leaving his wife and soon to be born child behind.

Got me thinking... there's now a bunch of "our guys" (and girls!) in far off places, and I'm sure they're all missing home bad. Wouldn't it be cool to be able to send each of them something special from the States? Something to take their minds off where they are and why they're there, to remind them of how much we all appreciate their sacrifices, and to let them know that we're thinking and worrying about them? The list of goodies we could send is endless - homemade cookies, skydiving mags and pictures, print outs of favorite threads from dz.com...

How could we make this happen? I'm envisioning a list of names and mailing addresses (APO/FPO's) that anyone can access to send something off to each of "our boys." I'll be glad to put up and maintain the list on my website and post a link in my signature file. Just need some help gathering the names and addresses...

Regardless of your politics on the war issue, let's show the people who are out there far from their families and friends just exactly how much they're loved and appreciated by stuffing their mail call sacks with cards and other good stuff!

That is a GREAT idea. Just let us know how it all will work and I definitely will send something to make their stay just a little easier.

That is a great idea. I have never meet any DZ.commers in person but I would be happy to send some some stuff over to make their stay a little less dreary (if that's possible). If anyone likes chocolate let me know - I make really good chocolate candies!

You beat me to it Lisa...I"m in...cookies, candy, dz.com nig noggery, skydiving videos, etc. To all those currently serving, good luck, and know that we are all pulling for you and you will never leave our thoughts and prayers. I know you will represent our country well and honorably. If you need anything...don't hesitate to ask.

Yup, once again we'll prove that skydivers rock!

Now for the hard part. We need names and addresses. Pull out your address book, ask your friends and at your home dz, whatever you gotta do... get those names and addys and get them to me ASAP! They don't have to be dz.commer's; they don't even have to be skydivers. Got an address for a whole unit? Great! Send those too!

You can email 'em to my @dropzone.com email.

This is gonna be great. B|

Does that mean you're actually going to start checking it? ;)

Great idea, Lisa. Count me in too!

I'm in, as well. How can I help, Lis? Say the word, and I'll manage it.

And another thought, albeit a tad more involved...there are at least 2 who are either expecting or have recently had new additions, or families with young children. Is there maybe something we can do for the families, as well? Let them know we're here should they need it? It's gotta be really hard on them, and they are part of the family, too..

Just a thought. And Lis, you rawk.

Absolutely! Great idea :)
Okay, send those APO/FPO addresses to me, and also send addresses for any families you know that are missing someone who is off serving in the military.

Send suggestions on what items to send overseas too. Tips from those who've been there and those who've sent things to military friends before are especially welcome (thanks wingie! Didn't know that about s.e. Asia).

My hosting company says bandwidth is unlimited for my website. Would sure love to test that out... ;)

No, the people who risk their lives for us and the people that wait at home for them are the ones who rock. An idea and a couple hours of my time is nothing compared to what they're doing for me.

And this won't work at all if you guys don't send the mail out, so hey - we ALL rock! :)

Especially them. They rawk in Iraq...and we rawk here (Ah geez, don't mind me, it's been a long and emotional day...sigh.)...

One idea I had was to make sure that families were "coddled" by us - if we work in the same area, lunch is great. Or invite them out to the dz for a barbque. Or cards and notes to them, let them know they're not alone, we're here. Stuff like that. Cultivate friendships, especially with new moms who might feel overwhelmed...

OTOH, I really haven't got an idea of what they would need, because I have not been in that situation.

It's an excellent idea.
This is going to be a long haul and more people are going to be going than we may think(Selective service is still here and has wider hands than people think/ not just 18yrs olds).
Thanks Sky.

Sounds great lisa I just received my shots over the weekend and it's looking pretty good for me as well. Send them the love and may be a little skydiving something. Since my closing pic necklace has broken I will put the pin onto my dog tags as a motivating reminder to get my ass back home and to the DZ.
