freebird 0 #1 February 11, 2003 What does this really mean. Do not panic but we are at risk for an attack? My sister calls and tells me in 3 or 4 days there may be a nuclear bomb droped in the US or biological weapons? I have been in class all day, whats up with this. Anyone heard this? quade 4 #10 February 11, 2003 What I want to know is why five levels? By definition, we're probably never going to use the lower two, so that makes it effectively three. Three was good enough for Star Trek. Sebazz1 2 #11 February 11, 2003 Do you think my job would mind if I just said " hey recent events and this code orange have made me a little nervous. I am going to head out to a remote location and wait it out for a bit? Coolw ith that? " Cause honestly I don't feel like hanging out in the Bay Area right now. Or any majorly populated area for that matter. Is it hype? I was watching on the news last night and it mentioned that in a code Orange situation you should have: *3 days food and water *plastic sheets to seal windows and doors *a meeting place outside of town Honestly the news said that. I am wondering...Mean people suck! In fact mean countries and ultra radical extremist suck too...
freebird 0 #12 February 11, 2003 Do you really think we will be informed if there is a REAL threat of a nuclear war ? I can understand a biological war can maybe take prevention, but if a nuke drops in Houston(NASA) whats the point of preparing? Why would they tell us( all we would do is freak out.) The prez has a nice underground pad that will keep him going. Are we doomed???
lukepinion 0 #13 February 11, 2003 I would think if there was a REAL threat of nuclear war then they would alert the public. At least I would hope so! I can't see them hiding it from everyone. Luke
freebird 0 #14 February 11, 2003 After 9 - 11 it is certain they do not care if they die, they think they are going to heaven. Why would they care if they bomb us they don't want to invade and take over, they want revenge aganist us helping Israel. Its not like the movie "Red Dawn" life is not important to them proving their point is.

BUT...i think the DZ is an excellent meeting place for "outside of town". i can just tell my boss i have to practice my nuclear/chemical/biological war evacuation plan all week long...woo hoo! lets go jumping! pilotdave 0 #19 February 11, 2003 I dunno what it means to the rest of the country, but it PISSES ME OFF. I'm now inside the Washington Air Defense Identification Zone. I can't fly without filing a flight plan and receiving a transponder code. I fly out of an uncontrolled airport, but now I need to be under air traffic control supervision as soon as I leave the ground. Pain in the ass. I've been getting really good at flying under the Baltimore class B airspace to avoid talking to controllers. At 3 local airports, including the one i flew out of until 9/11, you can't fly in without making a stop at another airport for a security screening. It's ridiculous. They're actually "wanding" passengers at those airports. I know my passengers. They can carry knives in my plane if they want. Who's the TSA to tell me they cant? My favorite quote from all of this is "What Bin Laden started, the TSA seems intent on completing." I totally agree with that. The terrorists won because of how we're reacting. ladyskydiver 0 #21 February 11, 2003 Will do. Yes, I'll be taking my rig. But, I'm going to check it and ensure my baby. The news has already said that anyone leaving MKE should plan on an extra 1/2 hour to 1 hour in addition to the 1 1/2 hours that you have to be there prior to your flight. Yesh! Before you know it, you'll be stuck spending the night at the airport.Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably. But Bill, you infer the exact opposite http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=377324#377324 -- Citing the threat the DPRK and China could pose. Granted, we aren't directly threatening them. Freebird, the very fact that you're being mindful, sans panic, is the best course of action in potential situations like this. dterrick 0 #25 February 11, 2003 QuoteThe terrorists won because of how we're reacting. quite agree! Kneejerk reactions never work and often hurt. Why are airlines going bankrupt? Why does GM need to give you your new car "free" for a year? Enron et al made many people think of accountants and businessmen as crooks. The shuttle tragedy shook our faith in the engineers and the NASA program - one of the great things the USA does. So who do you trust anymore but your fellow skydiver? ...and with all this going on, why am I still coming to visit my sister in SanFran at the end of the month? Well, I hope it involves skydiving at some point...
