The first 5 jumps I made all involved landing in bushes and on 2 occasions trees (only got hung up once)
At jump #6 I suddenly got the concept of actualy steering a parachute, and I was fine....

Earnt myself the nick 'the tree-doctor' because getting my chute back usualy involved an axe:)

Gawd, those are funny!

A DZ I used to frequent when I was driving over the road had a student fixate on the hanger, and ended up putting a hole in the door while hanging from the harness off the peak of the roof.

I wasn't there at the time, but I guess there's pictures somewhere.

Thrillseek, you out there?
:P

No pic of the action itself, but this was taken some time after....

picture

I stalled my parachute on landing, at approx. 3m off the ground. I fell flat on my back, unfortunately on the asphalt taxiway. A few stiches in my elbow, and my leg was stiff for a few weeks, but miraculously nothing broken.

Lesson learned: Try out the stall point when jumping a new canopy. Prefererrably little higher than I did...;)

Heard of a guy At Perris, that froze up right after he pulled, the wind caught him, took him about 4-5 miles out. he landed in an alley way, sort of.
he cleared a razor wire fence, and crashed through a wood fence. he called the DZ from that persons house...

I laughed my ass off when I heard it

Posted a different pic of this in another thread, but THIS is what happens when you land next to powerlines and let your canopy fall on them. That pink ball of shit used to be a 340 main. This also started a brush fire and took the dropzone's power out. On the right is Chrissy, the coolest DZO ever, who even let him keep the remains of the canopy. Closeup HERE.

HERE's another guy that used to be in my club landing on the roof of the hanger at cross keys. :)

Well, ya know, he's been awfully quiet lately, while studying to gad-g-ate. He could come here and defend himself, but you are right, it wasn't him. Ask him about his fellow students though....

I still haven't seen the pic or video of that, but the way it was relayed...

The I rode the plane down, I think. While on the taxiway, the pilot saw the hole, and the canopy, lines, and risers hanging from the peak, and all he said was "Well, that can't be good...

I still :D evertime I think about that comment.

p.s. Did ya know he's gonna be in the Chicago area this summer, and even said he'd come up to East Troy to help me practice my video while he practices his board....Gonna drive up and meet us? :)
