skydiverek 63 #1 August 14, 2002 Check this out!: http://www.tandemy.pl/filmy/DragonSeba.mpg That looks cool! Just to let you know, this jump was consulted with and approved by Parachutes de France tandem examiner. Parachutes de France tandem rig was used in this jump. That's what it says in Polish on http://www.tandemy.pl/filmy.html website.
PhreeZone 20 #2 August 14, 2002 Tandem examiner is different then tandem manufactor. A few JM's here in the states have had their ratings yanked for similar stunts through out the years.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
TEB6363 0 #3 August 14, 2002 Not something I would want to see behind my rig!!!! Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
Sebazz1 2 #4 August 14, 2002 I am with you Tom. Stay the F~ away from me and my passengers drogue Ahh shit I got a jumper in tow!!! CUT AWAY!!
goose491 0 #5 August 14, 2002 This seems safe enough for an experienced freeflyer. There is soo much tension in the bridle from the drogue that entanglement is near-impossible. You can see when he first get's on top of the tandem couple that he leans back a bit and pull himself back up using the bridle... it may aswell be a bamboo pole to him... Very cool, I'm sure jumping off the couple was pretty cool too. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
PhreeZone 20 #6 August 14, 2002 You've never seen a drougue collapse then. Drouges are under tension as long as there is clean air for it to fly in. By pulling on the bridle he pulls the Drogue close to his and the tandems burble. If the person coming in steals the drogues clean air it can collapse and then entangle with the bridle or jumper. A knotted drogue is bad news and even worse is an entanglement. Also if the jumper would have kicked the pin out while trying to climb on the back that would have started the deployment sequence with the jumper between the Pilot Chute and the canopy as the canopy is being lifted off the back (With the tandem accelerating due to the trapdoor effect on some rigs). There was a fatility a few years ago when the videographer became entangeled in the bridle and hit the Tandem in freefall as they deployed. He killed his own mother on that jump. Over all this was not smart at all on either the jumper, the TM or the passenger (that probally had no idea of the danger factor)Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
freeflir29 0 #7 August 14, 2002 Well...the way that guy flailed out of the plane it would amaze me if he had more than 50 jumps. Looks cool...yet very scary!!! Kinda like BASE jumping for me....Looks cool but I wouldn't do it.
goose491 0 #8 August 14, 2002 I understand the concept... You'll note I said it would take an experienced freeflyer. I think this stunt was carefully thought out. You'll notice the FF made sure to fly in and take a spot really low on the bridle so as to get into the tandems burble as oppose to making it larger. Also, I could be on crack but it seems to me that this is a particularly long bridle? Anyway, there is a thread started about words to live by and some good ones are "Anything is possible" I would not have thrown this idea away if some people were willing to figure out how to do it relatively safely.... As these skydivers did. Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
blondeflyer7 0 #9 August 14, 2002 I think it is a very cool jump. unusual but cool
lowpull 0 #10 August 14, 2002 There are about a million things that go wrong on a NORMAL tandem jump as it is. I am almost dizzy thinking about how much danger this stunt could cause. And yes, there was an episode a few years ago where this same thing happened, and ALL ratings and if I remember right from my Tandem I/E course,USPA memberships were yanked. When we teach people to be tandem instructors, we teach about the "hourglass" above and below a tandem that is a definite no fly zone for ANYONE! I only hope that someone with little experience and NO judgment doesn't try this here in the states. I would pull Tandem ratings on the spot were I to see evidence of this kind of jump under one of the systems I am an I/E for. (RWorkshop and Jumpshack) Believe me, I am all for seeing how far we can push human flight, but, please, lets do it safely! Peace Ralph
skymut 0 #11 August 15, 2002 That was a pretty cool video. The visuals were awesome, what with nice clouds in the background and all. Was it just me, or was the music just a bit lame? LawnDart21 0 #12 August 15, 2002 After just finishing TICC ground school and watching a 90 minute "Bad Day at the Office" tandem video, I'd have to agree that that jump, despite being visually appealing becuase it went well, was a very poor decision to proceed with. Yikes. It's not always whether we "could", sometimes we have to ask whether we "should". Blue ones! -- My other ride is a RESERVE.

That goes along with an old joke about 'voice recorder' boxes being put in the trucks of people from the south. The most common heard phrase before an accident was: "Hey, check this out!! JohnnyD 0 #16 August 16, 2002 HAIRY!!!! The first thing I thought of was a premature deployment. Not good if there's someone on your back. I used to think the coolest skydiving video I ever saw was of a tandem. The guy flying vid came in and Mr. Bill'd the tandem at deployment, did a few second interview and released. Now that I am a tandem master, I think that is about the stupidest thing I ever saw.
