wmw999 2,586 #1 February 14, 2003 long whiney rant ahead. I'm just in a bad mood. The coding I'm working on has requirements that I think are conflicting (and I've been reading and implementing formal flight software requirements for 10+ years). The notes I get back explaining are peppered with statements like "Where do you get these ideas?" The testing tool is crashing, and the guy who wrote it isn't around for me to know if it's my code or the tool. I made the cardinal sin of committing a mistake collating the print for someone who announced loudly to the world that she just can't understand how lazy people can be. The laptop I bought off eBay earlier this week hasn't been shipped yet. Turns out the guy didn't have an AC adapter after all, so he's been trying to find one. Silly me, I thought if you offered something for sale (in this case a specific used laptop) and requested response within 24 hours, you ought to own the parts. And the weather sucks, so I won't be taking the afternoon off to go jumping after all. Of course, that's OK because with the debugging I'm doing, I wouldn't have the time any way. But I have flowers on the table at home, and tonight I think I'll go to the mall and get some Godiva chocolates. wildblue 7 #5 February 14, 2003 Hey, right there with you. I don't even have time to list everything that's beating me down. But I have a headache, and I've had this massive knot in my back literally since Monday - it just keeps moving from the left side to the right side. Oh well... I'm sure things will improve soon. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

MrHixxx 0 #8 February 14, 2003 Relax, I am sitting with a torn medial miniscus in my left knee from stepping off a ladder wrong at work. My employer says I am an independent contractor (un-beknownst to me) since I work part time, so I am not covered under workman's comp. My surgery is Monday, it will be 8000.00 out of pocket. -Hixxxdeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when

wmw999 2,586 #10 February 14, 2003 Dude, you definitely have it worse; as do most people. Which was why the thread started with "pissy." I hope things look up for your knee -- that really sucks. Michele 1 #11 February 14, 2003 Quote My employer says I am an independent contractor (un-beknownst to me) Check with a lawyer, my friend. Do you get paid with a 1099? Pay your own social security tax? Any other kind of tax? These are all indicators of if you are or are not an IC. By the way, being an IC does not exclude WC in some situations if it happens during required work. All of my collegues are IC, and one sprained his ankle because of a pothole in the parking lot. He was covered by WC. And we fit all the criteria for coverage on WC. Get it checked out by folks who'd know. I am not recommending litigation, but know exactly what your status is, both via IC and the state's WC fund. As for you, Wendy, you and your group have been under enormous pressure and stress because of the loss of Columbia - shit will fly around, and it will manifest oddly. Take a break when you need to, and know that hugs are sent and pissy moods are acceptable to feel. Godiva chocolate is a most excellent remedy, as is talking it out and "venting". Michele 1 #13 February 14, 2003 Mr Hixxxxxxxx.... Here's an interesting discussion of how/why IC's are used... http://www.erhpc.com/businessrpts/contractor-employee.htm IRS 20 question test: http://www.prounlimited.com/20guide.html (I'll be adding links as I find them pertinent to your situation, but I still suggest you talk to an attorney.)
