goose491 0 #1 February 14, 2003 Hello all, I'm not computer savy but my buddy has recently tried to capture a few jumps of mine from VHS to Mpeg files... He has an "ATI TV wonder" video capture card and used it with every different setting, but the play back is "always choppy and messed up" Is there any "slap-my-forehead" type of pointers anyone could give me to get this to work out? My buddy thinks he may need new drivers (I don't think he is very computer savy either BTW) Thanks in advance. p.s. some cool videos of yours truly to follow shoul we succeed My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! billvon 3,120 #2 February 14, 2003 I looked at that card; I remembered not liking it, I think because it can't capture DVI, just compressed formats. I also tried the Matrox capture card with OK success but it would drop frames about once a second. I have had good luck using a Firewire (1394) card in the PC and then using a Dazzle or similar capture device to convert the video. The DMA drivers for firewire devices are much more stable. Of course, even easier is to just use a camcorder as your capture device.
dterrick 0 #3 February 14, 2003 goose: I run an original ATI All in Wonder Radeon and have good success. PM me and I should be able to help. Jump vid's are tres cool Dave PS: Wyle E's sitfly is an edited screen rip using the card. RevJim 0 #4 February 15, 2003 I have an ATI TV Wonder VE, which is probably what he has, since it's cheap. If that's it, tell him "Don't bother". The drivers available for the card (or at least the ones I have found) do not allow high enough resolution to provide a decent video. It's also prone to dropping alot of frames, since it uses lots o' processor power. It's your life, live it! goose491 0 #5 February 15, 2003 In that case, I should look into getting myself a decent video capture card for my computer. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
goose491 0 #6 February 15, 2003 That's pretty cool man! (refering to Sit-fly avatar) I'd love to be able to catch stills and short mpegs from video. What does a card like that go for? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
dterrick 0 #7 February 16, 2003 QuoteWhat does a card like that go for? when they first came out they were close to six hun taxes in. Today, the newer more powerful version is about half that. TV in and out, firewire port, etc. it's all there and fairly common now. To do decent video and otherwise you;ll need BIGGG hard drive and lots of ram. I bet your friend's jittery problem has to do with not enough memory.
