christopherm 0 #1 February 16, 2003 Look it's my new car! Soon I will send it off to Lingenfelter for the Twin Turbo LS1, ZO6 427 CID 725 BHP / 650 lbs-ft of torque upgrade. Maybe I'll get the wide body too. Can anyone guess what 2.97 is?... It's how many seconds it will take to reach 60mph. Well okay, so maybe it's not my car yet, but I do dream about it a lot... and... and... some dreams come true right? -So, how hard is the ground?! TB99 0 #2 February 16, 2003 The Zee has been my favorite car since the first time I heard of it ... I LOVE that car and WILL own my own. Dreams do come true, my friend ... patience in life is all it takes. I'm anxious to see what GM finally comes out with for the '04 Z ... I want to see which rumors come trueYou should check out www.z06vette.com if you haven't done so already. It's an awesome site with a great forum for info on the Z. Lots of good people there to answer questions. Trailer 11/12 was the best. Thanks for the memories ... you guys rocked!

Viking 0 #7 February 16, 2003 ya but then you have to have six custom made tools to change your oil! Ford always does that! My realistic dream car is a 1991 Honda CRX Si with a d16z6 motor swap (engine out of the 92-95 civics) with a jackson racing supercharger and a few other go fast and handling mods. Handles like a supercar quick enough for me and awsome on gas even with the supercharger. TB99 0 #13 February 16, 2003 As far as WHEN the 04s? The only thing I've heard was April ... but just a rumor, like everything else. The new colors sound REALLY nice tho, I can't wait to see what those colors look like in person. There is a horsepower increase rumor, and there's a special package that's going to be offered for the 04 model, no one knows what that package is going to consist of, but that isn't a rumor. Possibility of a price increase as well ... Trailer 11/12 was the best. Thanks for the memories ... you guys rocked!

TB99 0 #16 February 16, 2003 Yea, I know the LPE setup ... they're also installing boost controllers that can allow you to bump up to 1000hp. They don't recommend any more than that. The real nice thing about their setup is that you can drive it daily and it's tame as ever, but if you get on it, HOLY COW! Here's a write-up of a guy from that forum who actually had his done by LPE. Quote427 Twin Turbo Z06 - FAQ As some of you may know, I recently had my 2002 Z06 modified by Lingenfelter Performance Engineering. They installed the 427 engine with twin turbo package. The car has attracted attention at Corvette functions and several on this forum have asked for information on the car. WHAT DID LPE DO? Removed stock engine, installed 427TT package with heavy duty clutch, heavy duty radiator and oil cooler, mini tub, and pillar mounted boost gauge. LPE installed wheels, tires and brakes supplied by Xtreme Motorsports. The transmission and rear end is stock. DESCRIBE THE ENGINE: C5R aluminum small block, blueprinted, 427 cubic inch displacement. Heads are stock LS6 but ported and polished, titanium spring retainers. The hydraulic roller camshaft is custom LPE designed. Pistons are forged aluminum reverse dome. Crankshaft is forged steel. Connecting rods are billet steel. The rotating assembly is computer balanced and blueprinted. Compression ratio is 9.0 to 1. DESCRIBE EXHAUST: LPE custom designed 4 to 1 stainless headers feed the turbos. The cats are factory stock, The cat back is GHL stainless steel. DESCRIBE TURBOS: Garrett/LPE custom designed, cooled by engine coolant and lubricated by engine oil. WHAT IS EXPECTED LIFE? 100,000 miles minimum for engine and turbos. WHAT TEMPERATURE: Oil temp is usually 100 degrees over ambient. Water temp around 175 to 190 degrees. WHAT DOES IT WEIGH: Around 80 lbs more than stock. WHAT IS GAS MILAGE? LPE claims around 1 mile per gallon less than stock at cruise. I can say when you are running hard it is quite thirsty. With stock, I always wanted to cruise in 5th. Now I am quite happy in 6th as it is more powerful than 5th was at stock. WHAT MAINT. IS REQD? Change oil & filter every 3000 miles, spark plugs every 10,000 miles. DESCRIBE, WHEELS, TIRES, BRAKES: Wheels are HRE 541 chrome plated with Michlein Pilot Sport tires 255/18" front, 345/19" rear. Brakes are Brembo Gran Turismo 14" drilled rotors and 4 piston calipers front and rear. WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? Under the hood it looks almost completely stock. It would take a sharp eye to detect that there are two gas lines going thru the driver side fuel rail cover or to notice the spring holding down the dip stick. Turbos are somewhat visible when you are underneath the car. The charge coolers, dual air intake filters and most of the air tubing are not. All in all the car presents a very stealthy appearence. HOW DOES IT DRIVE? The car drives just like it did when stock. You could drive it and have no idea of what it's capabilities were if you kept it under 3500 rpm. However, when you get on it all hell breaks loose. The acceleration can best be described as violent. It continues to pull harder and harder as the boost builds with no end seemingly in sight. From my experience it pulls considerable harder at 180 mph than 120 mph. HOW LONG TO BUILD? Twelve weeks from start to finish. LPE required the car for 6 weeks at their shop. HOW MUCH HP? 735 HP at flywheel with 10lbs of boost. Capable of 1000 HP or more by cranking the boost. Each lb of boost adds 30 RWHP. You can break the 345's loose anytime in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. You can break them loose in 4th at 75 MPH. At 100 mph or more in 5th you can make the rear squirm at WOT. HOW FAST? With slicks, LPE claims 0 to 60 mph time of 3 seconds. 1/4 mile time around 9.5 seconds at 150 mph. Top speed is 230 mph. In several friendly runs with stock or near stock Z06's it pulls them 20 to 30 car lengths in a 60 to 130 mph romp. HOW DOES IT SOUND? Sounds pretty much stock till you get on it. Then there is a thrashing noise not unlike standing next to a speeding freight train. The noise increases in intensity as boost and speed increase. There is no noise that can be attributed to the turbos, no spooling sound, no waste gate or blow off sounds. The GHL exhaust is similar to stock except slightly louder, deeper and more hollow sounding. It does pop prominently on deceleration. WHAT DO I MISS? Some things I do miss. No more marbles in the can sound. No more WOT power shifting into 2nd & 3rd. No more serious street races. However, it is quite fun to toy with another performance car before you hammer it and leave them far behind. No more day dreaming about what the next performance mod might be. WHAT WAS COST? Approximately $75,000 not including cost of car. A 24,000 mile 2 year warranty is included. LPE describes the car as wretched excess. I totally agree with them. What a car ... Edited to add: WOT means Wide Open Throttle for those who don't know ... basically pedal to the metal. I can't explain everything in this, but one term helps better than none, lol ... Trailer 11/12 was the best. Thanks for the memories ... you guys rocked!
flyingferret 0 #17 February 16, 2003 Baahhh. Corvettes are overdone. Every 50 year old with a midlife crisis and money has one. I think the old school body styles look much more unique anyway. Weid14, that looks pretty cool, but looks like there will be almost no rear visibility. As for me, I would rather have a Supra TT with Greddy upgrades cranking 600-650 horses. Probably just as fast and you see a lot less of them. But for now, I have new gear, new Harley, and a $5K 92 Integra. Priorities -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. TB99 0 #18 February 16, 2003 LOL ... I see LOTS of SupraTTs ... not as rare as you think ... There's a difference between a Corvette and a Corvette Z06, and you don't see Z's nearly as often. dterrick 0 #22 February 17, 2003 Hey Viking! Don't shortchange the 88-91 Civic Si hatchback style (I have an 89). Same mechanicals... Waay more interior room. Longer wheelbase so they are far smoother on the interstates (and less twitchy). Factory moonroof rather than sunroof. Likely cheaper to insure. As for the engine swaps, skip the blower. There is no replacement for displacement. Do the Acrua 1.8 swap for a solid 170 bhp on a header and air intake and tire smoking torque (so much for cheap insurance). Or, spend 3-4 hun and put the 'teg 10.5:1 pistons in the D16 and the 'teg computer ... almost as good (don't tell your insurance guy). Top that off with the ZX gearbox cogs added to the Si final drive... Makes for a close ratio box with kiss-ass-er acceleration and little or no loss in fuel economy! (think 300 miles to a 10 gallon tank). FYI, one of our sports car club guys is/was a test mule for Mugen 10 years ago. D'ya get the impression we've developped a bunch of hot Hondas since then? flyingferret 0 #24 February 17, 2003 If you are going that small (although I do think minis look cool) I would do what the post above mentioned. Do hybrid conversion of Civic/Integra. The advantage with small cars is so little weight in relationship to power. The vette has the same thing, but it is like a fiberglass sardine can, yuck. If you want to go small with a lot of style, pull a High-School AggieDave and built a monster street VW bug (no, not the new one). Personally, like whatever you like. I like imports, I like the styling, and I dont understand why they can get the same performance out of 2 liters that Americans wast 4.8, 5.2, etc on. They are lean, mean, and tweaked.
