sangiro 26 #1 February 18, 2003 Heya all, I know there are some duplicates but the Classified Ad section just broke through the 1000 barrier and I'm looking at doing a basic upgrade to add some features (this could include uploading photos, posting comments or questions to an ad, max number of ads per poster, category editors, maybe different categories etc) I always wondered about the basic display of ads and thought I'd ask those of you who go there frequently: Would you prefer the full ads to show up when you click on a category page (as is the case now) or just the subject lines of each ad and then click on it to view the details. I may build both options but would like to hear from you on where to go if I do one only. Not, that this is a democracy or anything... I'm just humoring you! Casch 0 #5 February 18, 2003 I really like the idea of viewing just the subject line, HOWEVER it would be nice if posters would get to the point in the subject line. For example "JAVELIN RIG FOR SALE", it would be nice if it said something like "Javelin J4, Sabre 190, PD 160". Some of the titles are a little vague, so it would be nice to remind people to be specific with the title for ease of searching. It would get frustrating searching through hundreds of vague titles only to find that none of them are what your looking for...wasted time. If people can't be more precise, you might as well just show the title and details on the same page. Perhaps a user choice, 2 weeks, 4 weeks (max). After that, they're cleaned out, keeping resources free for you to do other things...just a thought. I think the option to view just thet title would help when there are so many items listed (complete rigs for example) but the title would need to be more specific thus the idea of completing a "form" is a good one. One thing that would help would be a "greenie" that could clean out all those quad posts that the morons post to every single category. You can post your ad for 30, 60 or 90 days and renew it a maximum of 3 times before you need to retype the entire ad again. The 1000 ads that are on there are not older than 3 months. Tumble 0 #13 February 19, 2003 Would it be possible to have a menu especially for the classifieds selling containers. Kind of like the ones used for selecting gear in profiles. It needs to have the main/reserve size or code for the size and harness size. Most people put in one or the other but not both on their ads. In forums like complete systems, why not break it down into categories such as 275'-220' canopies down to the smallest canopy that way people looking for specific canopy sizes can go directly to what they want.. I know it'a alot of work re-writing all that code ( ) , but, it would be really nice if the classifieds were set up exactly the same as new gear ads. Imagine looking for, say, a used Spectre. You want a 170 (like I do). You go to the classifieds, click used gear, click main canopys, click 7 cell, and if there happens to be any Spectres for sale, you click on the Spectre link, and browse the results. If there are no Spectres for sale, you still have a list of links for other 7 cell canopys, like the PD's for instance, or the Diablos. See, you go looking for a 7 cell, and that's what you see, even if you didn't, before that time, know there were any other 7 cells. Same with reserves. Looking for a PD, but see all the others that have there own links, broadening you options. For years I couldn't remember the difference between a Silhouette and a Spectre, without going to a gear dealer site. This would help also. People know either exactly what they want, or have a general idea of what they want (like the 'Spectre' vs. 'a 7 cell main') Would be cool but only a suggestions, HH.It's your life, live it!
