another night club disaster...

Recommended Posts

Horrific, more than half the occupants were casualties. I thought you guys had quite strict building codes and fire standards to meet...NFPA etc.
Clearly they either don't work, or were being flouted?>:(

Thoughts with the victims and their loved ones.[:/]

From the reports that I've seen this morning, the building did not have any sprinklers, nor were they required to with the state building codes with the type of building that it was. Me thinks they need to review those codes. In addition, it's not known yet if they had a permit to do pyrotechnics in there. They said all 4 exit doors were working, but due to human nature, most tried to leave out the front the way they came in. One guy said very few people were even coming out one of the doors he was at. Very, very sad.

Something to think about- when they do a side door exit on a C-130 in the Army, they allow about 1 second per jumper, and if you've even seen a video of it, they are right on eachother's asses going out the door. That night club had 4 doors for 200-300 people. If you were the 50th or 100th person rushing the exit, you would have to survive for a minute or two. The news camera that caught the ignition and evacuation showed it was out of control in seconds. Hard to hold your breathe when you are panicking. Very sad story. I used to party in Providence, Kingston, and Warwick in the mid-90s.

I never have liked large crowds of people.

I agree. 15-20 packed like sardines is good enough for me, especially if I get to watch the 'sweet spot'.

Most places i know have to follow the codes that were in place when you build the place. The only time you re required to update is if you change the use of the building.

what a sad thing

It is so sad. I saw this in the local news this morning while I was heading out to work. I have been to this place many times. They always had real fun shows there. My heart goes out the families of those involved.

they were at a (Great White) concert. Now this is only speculation, but perhaps they deserved to die. 150 less Great White fans can't be a bad thing, can it?

I kid, I kid.

Accelerate hard to get them looking, then slam on the fronts and rollright beside the car, hanging the back wheel at eye level for a few seconds. Guaranteed reaction- Dave Sonsky

I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who was at the show. Thankfully he made it out in time. He has some second degrees burns on his face and on his arm. Whew, my heart is still racing. I got a call from his roomate saying that he went. Took me nearly an hour to get a hold of him to see if he was okay. He said it was absolutely a horrific scence. I only wish that others were as lucky as him to get out in time.

The death toll is now at 95.

I just spoke with my friend again and he started telling me about what he saw happen. Absolutely horrible. I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like. Events like this really make you think - at least they make me think. I'm going to go hang out with him and his girlfriend tonight and give him the biggest hug that I can and let him know just how much I love him.
