skygod7777 0 #5 February 25, 2003 hey, have fun. but be very carful. if you profile is up-dated, that is a big jump from a 210 to a 170. do a bunch of high altitude hop'n pops. like 13000 foot ones. lean the canopy. later, be safe.

Yah, and going from a 7 cell to a 9-cell eliptical may not be the best idea. Please rethink this or at least tells us you are getting one on one canopy control instruction. Raefordite 0 #8 February 25, 2003 Triathlon 210 ft² & 108 jumps and now have a 170 Stilleto. Don't get me wrong, Stilleto's are great canopies. I have over 1000 jumps on them. But I got to give you the big - Ditto - is your profile current? If so, I'm curious, did you purchase it from an individual or dealer (dealer or individual names not important)? skydiverbrian 0 #10 February 25, 2003 We've never seen him fly, so we should lay off. Maybe he's awesome. He can decide for himself (as long as he accepts the responsibility) what he can or can't fly. I bought my Stiletto 150 when I had 32 jumps. No cutaway yet and I'm not dead. Tis refreshing to see a nice post. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!

mnischalke 0 #15 February 25, 2003 Maybe yes, maybe no. Maybe I just want to be able to say I warned him. Maybe he's been jumping his friend's sabre 2 170 for the last 50 jumps and we just don't know. Maybe he's wingloading a 170 at 1.0:1. Again, we don't know. What do I know? Jumping from a 210 to a 170 is cool with me, if you can handle the extra speed of downsizing two sizes in one jump. Going from a 7-cell to a 9-cell is cool too, but be prepared for the canopy to behave differently. Going from square to elliptical is okay if you are prepared for everything going to shit a whole hell of a lot faster. Making all three of these changes on one jump is a series of several weak links in the chain. Sorry, I can't condone that. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills. billvon 3,120 #18 February 25, 2003 > I dunno wtf is going on lately with people on the forums, but > everyone seems so quick to jump to conclusions and have negative > things to say. Tis refreshing to see a nice post. As a former S+TA, sometimes negative things ARE the nice things to say. Sometimes you have to tell people things they don't want to hear. Sometimes it's better to have someone call you an ass as they walk away than to see them hauled away in an ambulance. I have no idea what the issue is here; I don't know how he flies, or if he can flat turn/flare turn/land his current canopy in rear risers etc. But I hope there are people out there, who know how he flies, who are willing to tell him things he may not want to hear if he does get in over his head. mnischalke 0 #19 February 25, 2003 Hey Sunshine, I don't really see too much negative that was said above. I see advice from people who have at some point and time made a progression from square canopy A to elliptical canopy Z. It's all about helping your friends see things from a different perspective, because ya know, we are all adults and we can make our on decisions. I like to base my decisions on the good word of those who went before me, as well as my own thoughts. If left to my ideas alone, I would probably be packing my Xaos-27 89 on some puffy cloud up in the great beyond. Not a sermon, just a thought. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills. TEB6363 0 #20 February 25, 2003 I "went" from a Furry 220 to a Monarch 155. No, I did not just "switch" between the two, I rented and borrowed before I bought my first new canopy. I just want to say Blue Skies, good luck, talk to your S&TA. I think it is good that he is continuing on with the sport and is happy with his new purchase. Besides, not every skydiver dies each time he downsizes to a new canopy Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!! kevin922 0 #21 February 25, 2003 i went from student gear (230?s) to my first rig -- cruiselight 220 put maybe 10 jumps on that and downsized to a hornet 135. I jumped someone's 160? or 170? once or twice.. Exit weight is 155.. have had 0 problems.. but again i guess it all has to do with the person. bout to downsize to my xaos 41... (okay I'm kidding about that, but I am about to go to a 120 or 115). That's about 150 jumps after I downsized to the 135. kevin

Dan's not big, but he's not that small either. I'm guessing the wing loading for him on a 170 will be about 1.1 to 1.2.
