Quite a bit before my (skydiving) time, but this happened at Mannheim while I was stationed in Bitburg, in Sept 1982.

Did you know anybody involved? I had a friend (A USAF MD) who was in a beer tent nearby when officials ran in, asking for medical people, but it was hopeless.
