diverdriver 7 #1 February 27, 2003 The architect selected to rebuild the WTC site is on now detailing his plan. And it's pretty interesting. The main building will be 1,776 feet tall to honor our year of independence. The guy is obviously passionate about his work and it's nice to see something exciting about the future of that site. flyingferret 0 #6 February 27, 2003 Quote The architect says that having calculated the arc of the sun, a wedge of natural light would funnel visitors to the memorial site, and that every September 11 between 8:46 a.m., when the first tower was struck by a plane, and 10:28 a.m., when the second tower collapsed, no shadows will be cast by his buildings. Gawain 0 #8 February 27, 2003 Actually, the 1776 ft structure is a spire, jutting above the main buildings (two smaller towers and a cluster of smaller buildings). It's a nice design, but it wasn't my favorite...actually, I wasn't too fond of any of the designs being considered. I hope the spire will be big enough to allow people at that top. I bet BASE jumpers are already planning their fun too. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! I was wondering about this, won't it be a day off in leap years? Then again, I was also wondering how well the plants would do 70 stories up. Interesting design nonetheless... flyingferret 0 #11 February 27, 2003 I think it might be slightly off. But I bet in a cosmic mechanics sense, the difference of a day might only be a minute, if that. However, I was wondering if it will shift over time. But one could say "Well, that represents the way that our grieve and comfort within our fellow citizens has changed the event through healing" But I think the thought is what counts. And yes I have been wondring about base. Maybe with an American flag under canopy? -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. And yes I have been wondring about base. Maybe with an American flag under canopy? I don't get it. NYC is at latitude 40 degrees N (approx), and in mid September the Sun is over the equator. So the Sun's rays will srike the building at an angle of 40 degrees from the vertical. Must be a very funny shape not to cast a shadow under that circumstance!I know lots of architects, and spouting high sounding baloney seems to be a requiriment for a license to practice.... murrays 0 #13 February 27, 2003 I love the proposed design that has been selected. I love the fact that it will feature a structure higher than the original towers....in my mind building something lower would have been a victory for OBL. The symbolism of the higher tower and 1776 (feet) is very appropriate. Can't destroy the spirit of free people. bobsled92 0 #17 February 28, 2003 The garden spire doesn't seem to have an observatory"roof top" to jump from like the Towers did.I wouldn't want to shimmy up the outside glass to the antenne, I might FALL _______________________________ If I could be a Super Hero, I chose to be: "GRANT-A-CLAUS". and work 365 days a Year. http://www.hangout.no/speednews/
