councilman24 37 #3 February 27, 2003 Ok, nobody else beat me up. But there are rec.skydiving.uk and uk.rec.skydiving. Not quite sure but don't think they're the same thing. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
gus 1 #4 February 27, 2003 There's also dirtdive.co.uk but it's pretty quiet in there. GusOutpatientsOnline.com
BagPuss 0 #5 February 27, 2003 Sorry, Nothing wrong with this Forum at all. It's great! Just everything is USA based. Plus because its so popular, I normally have a few hundred posts or more each time I log on. So never able to catch up on the threads. I've tried Dirt Dive but like someone said, its totally quiet and I'm on the UK Newsgroups. Just wanted a Forum that was based and aimed towards the UK. Just wish it was as cheap as the USA I noticed that some DZ's its $35 where as we pay £35 in the UK....Gutted or what! BagPuss Oulton Broad
AggieDave 6 #6 February 27, 2003 There's a real strong UK base of posters here on the site. They usually come out during our night, yall's day, though. $35? Geez, I pay $17 for a jump... --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Yeah I know but I'm still a newbie so paying more. Just shows you how screwed up this country really is. So that works out to roughly $52.5 for me working up to my Cat 8. What a rip off. AggieDave 6 #8 February 27, 2003 BUT is it worth it? HELL YEAH! It's skydiving, of course its worth it. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
BagPuss 0 #9 February 27, 2003 Yeah I know, of course its worth it. Just wish I could do more jumps. 200 mile round trip to my DZ and I can only afford 2 jumps a month. Bummer, but I'll get there.
wmw999 2,557 #10 February 27, 2003 Not UK-centered, but bletherchat is more active when the US-ians are home sleeping. Here's a link to one of Erno's posts (it's his chat) with a link to it: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=356682#356682 Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

riddler 0 #15 February 28, 2003 Quote$35? How does that break down? I assume part is for gear rental. Do you pay any taxes on jumping there? I also assume $35 is British pounds? riddler 0 #17 February 28, 2003 Oohh - nice. How do you make the little pound symbol? I don't know if that's a keyboard character for you, or if you have a markup on dz.com for it.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
skreamer 1 #18 February 28, 2003 The £35 includes the instructor fees (briefing, jump master, debriefing), gear hire and pack job. There are DZs that do it cheaper. Anybody who gets their Cat.8 in the UK with this crap weather has my respect. Will
nacmacfeegle 0 #19 February 28, 2003 Macca, US keyboards don't have a £, only $, whereas cosmopolitan peeps like us have both..... 35 pounds, about 50 bucks, is about right for a student jump in the UK I think....Gear rental, repack, and instructor time..... Generally the jump tix are about 1.4 times the price they are over there. skreamer 1 #20 February 28, 2003 Change your keyboard layout to United Kingdom and press Shift 3. Now keep doing that whenever you want the £.
Zeemax 0 #21 February 28, 2003 £ £ £ £ £ £ £ £ £ £ £ £ Just checking my local DZ (headcorn) need BPA membership, £70 (i think) then you need to be a member of the DZ, another £50 then jumps are £18 if you have your own rig, i dont so it works out at about £36, with £15 refunded if you pack the chute. Something worries me about that. People just packing it so they get the money back, no reason to do a good job Phoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies
