Just got off the phone with my parents

Explained to them my plan, the bus....staying with JT, seeing the country....cheaply...

he was quiet

then he says, well....sounds like a great oppurtunity, may never be able to do it again....i say go for it!!!!:o Yay!!

So, looks like going out there will become definite very soon!!!

Oh and perhaps making the boogie might be possible afterall!!! Woo hoo!!!!! :)

Just try to explain to them how it important is is to you to go. It would be a great experience for you and your friends. Nothing like a vacation with friends. This same opportunity may not be available to you in the future. That may work. Good luck.

Here are some tips I've gathered from taking LOTS of busses in Mexico:

- take something to eat/drink (never know when you'll stop somewhere that will offer food/drink)
- dress in layers (temps in there can really fluctuate and you'll want to be able to add/remove as needed)
- take your own roll of toilet paper (never know if they'll have any... seriously)
- take something to do - read, listen, play (obviously)
- check your seat before you sit down (I sat in a wet seat in Mexico and my ass was wet for 6 hrs on a bus... that was NOT comfortable. it itched the whole time.. LOL)
- take earplugs (you may get loud people, crying babies, yelling kids, whatever. just be ready or it will be a LONG trip)
- take a pillow and blanket for sleeping (they may not have enough or any at all)
- take eyedrops and lotion (they are very dry)

That is all that's coming to mind right now. If I think of more later, I'll be sure to add them.

Have fun ! :)

Hi Daizey,
Here is an objective point of view from an Aussie.
I traveled from LA to Miami, to Kentucky, to chicago to Washington to San Fran then back to LAX, with quite a lot of stops in between. Places lke Chatanooga and Fargo were interesting.

Now the bus trips, were great, but you need to be prepared for a BUS trip, not a Coach trip. Some people use Greyhound as a commuter transport some use it to move house, I was amazed at some of the "cabin luggage" that people carried on. Massive suit cases, huge packing boxes, a drum kit, an lots of other stuff.

There is a class structure on the bus, the sleaziest people tend to go straight to the back of the bus next to the toilet, the middle seems to fill with the moderately younger able group and the front if occupied by both the older and very younger passengers. I spent 8 weeks traveling around the US and it was all by Greyhound, El Paso had the best bus stop, very clean and bright, LA had one of the worst terminals. My bags were left behind in Alabama but caught up to me 2 days later. (take some on board clothes with you in your bag). Take a walkman or like to drown out the noise as required, take water, take a couple of magazines or a book. But most importantly, TAKE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE, and keep an open mind, you could well me someone from every facet of America.

I had a blast, but next time I will try and do it by Amtrack, just for a different perspective.

The cost of the trip was pretty cheap I bought my ticket on the internet and I got a time related ticket, I could get on and off a bus whenever and wherever I wanted to within a specifed time period.
Have fun with girl I did.:D:D:)

You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky)
My Life ROCKS!
How's yours doing?
