BLACK BOX FOUND AFTER 11 DIE IN SKYDIVING CRASH
Monday 03 March 2003 7:55am

A flight data recorder has been recovered from a small plane in which 11 people died when it crashed in central Russia while carrying skydivers. Valery Garazha, a duty officer at the Tver region emergency department, says investigators found the 'black box' from the L-410 aircraft that went down on Saturday near Moscow.
The plane was flying at 9,900 feet when it began to break up. Fourteen people survived the crash.
Officials says many of the skydivers were swept out of the plane by a stream of air after the tail fell off. Some managed to open their parachutes and land safely.
NTV television reports investigators are considering the possibility the plane had been overloaded.
Twenty-five people were on board, but officials say it was meant to carry only up to 19 passengers.

Thanks for starting this thread in Talk Back. Now we can post condolences here instead of in Incidents.

My sincerest condolences to all who knew them.

Yes. I have several dear skydiving friends who live in Moscow. I've been trying to reach them, but no reply.

This is just all too sad and my heart goes out to our fallen friends and their families. Hold each other close, for this life is short. We never know what tomorrow will bring.
