What the hell have I done?

Recommended Posts

Everybody - here's the deal:

I've been struck by a very bizarre coincidence. Yes, I've been on Paxil, for awhile, like I said. Also, I've been reading a particular book, "The Pursuit of Oblivion." It's about the history of drugs. I read about how cocaine, LSD, herion, you name it, were in the past used widely as theraputic drugs just like the many anti-depressants, etc. we have now.

Now add to that my experience of withdrawal while reading the last pages of that book and finding my experiences WAY too familiar - like those that I had just read about that became outlawed and associated with crime, political corruption, assinine "rhetoric"in international relations, Doctors, Psychiatrists, etc. that don't have a clue, blah blah.

Um, MAJOR MINDFUCK!

Anybody want a beer?

I definately could use a beer...

about the law suit stuff...

1. A judge and/or jury statement of causality in
a death case (i.e. Paxil caused the man to kill..) is very different from scientific evidence about cause and effect

2. SSRI's make big pharmas BILLIONS of dollars, yet billions. Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft have each made their makers billions of dollars. They have a HUGE interest in protecting their cash cows.

3. The man on Paxil for two days and murdered his family... sorry folks, but Paxil doesn't even come close to having such an effect on people. Most often it takes 4-6 weeks or more to get an effect. The SSRI's are mild drugs folks until they reach their therapeutic effect. Then, when the brain is used to all that extra serotonin floating around, watch out.

4. Clinical trials are, overwhelmingly, objective. That's part of my job as a clinical trial monitor, to ensure that docs and pharmaceuticals are being honest.

Truth about SSRI's are that they HAVE helped MILLIONS and the incidence rate of any of these suicides, murders, etc., even it if is causal, is extremely low. Even still, by all means put a freaking warning lable that says MAY CAUSE... ##### man, efedrin is more dangerous and its available over the counter.

Thanks for letting me rant.

I have actually benefitted from the use of these medications but my doc is real good and spent about 30 minutes telling about the bad ju ju gets if I just kicked em cold. So I dosed off of them slowly.

Relax, be with friends.

Shit, this thread made me go look up real world side effects of what I'm on (Celexa). I didn't know about some of them. I've experienced a few of the more common side effects, my doc and I discussed these at length actually, before I would agree to going on it. But still, some of the others that I hadn't heard of before are worry some. Atleast Celexa isn't as bad as some of the others I was reading about.

Yeah, no shit - one big happy crazy family :D

I thought this thread died out. You should have seen me yesterday morning - I was absolutely OUT OF MY FRIGGIN MIND! I finally gave in and took more paxil. I have to say my sense of humor and ability to step back and laugh at myself helped a lot. But on a serious note, I think I somewhat understand how people can get to the point where they'll actually kill themselves over this shit. If I didn't have my family, friends, and my future plans for my life that I have going for me, well, yeah, my brain was doing some weird shit, I'll just say that. I feel I should say something else. How about if anybody that reads this ever meets somebody that's going through anything like that and they look lost, help 'em out. Just because it's a regular "legal" drug don't make it safe.

EDIT: A couple days ago I thought alcohol would be a fine temporary solution. Wrong - it made it about 10,000,000,000 times worse. Don't fuck up. This has been a public service announcement.

Believe it or not, alot of our inner problems today
are caused by all the bullshit that they are adding to our foods preservative, hydrogenated oil etc...I did't
believe this at first, but my six year old son was suspected for having A.D.D,by his teacher. It was very hard for him to hold his attention to anything, and he was majorly falling behind.Me being
against giving my kid a magic pill, did some research
and I changed his diet...Got rid of all the crap, and added more omega 3 to his diet, and in a short time
his teacher noticed a 100% difference...Since then I
changed my diet in the same way,and my abilty to conentrate, and my overall well being is much better.
Keep your head up bro,can only get better...
Peace>>>>and blue ones :)

Agreed. When I go to the grocery store I usually just go to produce, meat/deli, and bakery. I go down the aisles for non-fat salad dressing, tea, etc., but most of the stuff in the middle of the store is no good.

Kinda ironic that I smoke and drink like a mofo ain't it?

I'm sure you've heard a doctor tell you this, but smoking and drinking don't really help the chemical balance in your system which the medication you're taking is trying to correct, and you're trying to get off of.

This may or may not help, but you might add a little chocolate to your regimen too. I don't mean a whole 1/2 lb. bag of M&Ms, but an ounce or two when the mood strikes...hey...you never know... ;)

Chocolate really does more than just taste good. B|
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life

Fitness and proper amounts of sleep are paramount also! If you don't have some sort of excersize program for yourself, start one! No, you don't have to do what I do (lift very heavy weights 4-5 times a week), you could go walking a couple evenings a week, or something like that. Just even a little extra excersize helps a LOT.

Sleep, your body needs it, your mind really needs it. Figure out what your body/mind needs are for sleep and strive to get it. For the 4 years I was in the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, I averaged 3-4 hours of sleep a night. Come to find out now, that was doing some damage for my physical and mental health. So now I'm getting a solid 6-7 hours a night and am doing much better. :)

Yep, I know that, and that's one more reason I was so pissed with myself. I used to run a lot. 5-10 miles at a time around Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet by the Twin Cities in MN - that was nothing for me, barely broke a sweat. Now I get winded when I take a hard shit. I f'ed up and got myself into a rut, but I've dug myself out. It'll be hard work and that's fine with me, sitting idle makes you get old.

That's got to be the funniest thing I've heard all day! Not funny, b/c of the situation, just a funny line, how you said it.

Speedy,

Are you trying to get off your meds too?:P

Good Luck Josh. I came off Prozac cold turkey and almost lost my mind, but I didn't realize that was the problem until about a month later and by then I was mostly over it. Hang in there.

Sounds like the doctors/pharmacutecal companies are making $$$ off too many people, and screwing them up much worse than they were during their first visit to the Dr.

One of my brothers has his doctorate in pharamacology ... I really believe that to a large degree, this gargantuan industy is self-propogating, and sells the population an enormus amount of drugs that may doing more harm than good.

That said, I wish good luck in getting off the dope to those of you are trying. I hope you can do it without gettin' too messed up.
