There was an underground electrical fire and explosion that sent the manhole covers flying and one of them almost took off my leg. Just proves that grandpa Simpson was right. AggieDave 6 #9 March 5, 2003 Hehe, man holes, I used to lift those up to get access to phone...wait, never mind. Depending on what kind of manhole cover it is, it weighs around 200lbs. Luckily, they have those little finger notches (for bars to lift them), but you can get a couple fingers under it and deadlift the edge up and over.
