wmw999 2,589 #1 March 7, 2003 Now I'll be a rocket science manager. No longer able to do technical work, or comment on technical issues. I'll have to screw things up with my computer, and get my email all bollixed up. The same people I was working with last week will be hand-feeding me in a few weeks. But I've been doing this for 10 years, and really wanted a change. This was the first one that came along that I was able to get into. It'll be interesting to do something different, and I'm looking forward to it. And it didn't even come with a raise! So whichever DZ I go to tommorrow, case-o-beer. Cajones 0 #5 March 7, 2003 Congrats! Nothing like more resposibility, without more compensation. Maybe you'll have more time to post on dz.com, at least. I hope they are paying you what you're worth... The laws of physics are strictly enforced.

riddler 0 #7 March 7, 2003 I was going to say good for you, until I read the part about becoming a manager. Eck. When I was in Astronautics, our managers decided we all should have Apple Macs for our desktop machines We spent all day terminal logged into our UNIX boxes from the Macs. I expect you to make such great decisions now that you're in management. I got out of it after three and a half years, and I still feel kind of stupid for staying in it that long. On the plus side, it's hard to find work in Engineering that's as glamorous. And the people are all pretty sharp. Congratulations on your promotion!! Trapped on the surface of a sphere. Rebecca 0 #8 March 7, 2003 Quote So whichever DZ I go to tommorrow, case-o-beer. Come to Spaceland! Come to Spaceland! Congrats on the promotion! Change is always exciting- I'm about ready for one myself... you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk? billvon 3,120 #10 March 7, 2003 Yep, it's inevitable I think. I went from being a low level engineer to a board level engineer to systems level, and now am treading that line between project management and engineering. At least I still get to design stuff once in a while.
kallend 2,150 #11 March 7, 2003 You could always fly model rockets. Oh - wait a minute, Homeland Security is killing that hobby.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
