DYEVOUT 0 #1 March 10, 2003 Score One for Powell: It's become almost routine for members of the American press to throw dumb or leading questions at members of the Bush administration. Maybe that's one of the reasons why Secretary of State Colin Powell seemed so well prepared for the shifty question recently hurled at him by an Iraqi reporter. According to the New York Post, one of Saddam's newshounds asked Powell, "Isn't it true that only 13% of young Americans can locate Iraq on a map?" "That may be true," Powell countered. "You're probably right. But unfortunately for you, all 13% are Marines." The Left Coast Report doesn't expect that Al Jazeera will be broadcasting that little exchange any time soon. 271st Combat Communications Squadron Detachment Commander ,Chief of Maintenance & 193rd Special Operations Wing Honor Guard OIC ----------------=8^)---------------------- "I think that was the wrong tennis court." billvon 3,118 #3 March 10, 2003 Actually that quote came from a Doonesbury comic strip; Powell never said it. You can verify this on Snopes. Powell is real, Doonesbury is not; an important distinction to keep in mind.
PhillyKev 0 #4 March 10, 2003 Isn't it a shame that there's no equivalent of snopes for the claims that the administration has been making regarding Iraq? I've noticed a trend that those who post the spurious quotes without confirming their authenticity also seem to be those who buy everything the administration claims and are in favor of war. DYEVOUT 0 #5 March 10, 2003 Holy Crap !! That was forwarded to me by a friend in the Army. Didn't have time to research the sources (I'm at work). I have never seen the words "Colin Powell" and "Doonesbury" in the same sentence before. Looks weird. ----------------=8^)---------------------- "I think that was the wrong tennis court."
