Bad Days in Aviation... in Pictures...

Recommended Posts

here's my contribution...

it's an f-15 crashing at an airshow. The follow up shot didn't upload due to size, it is after the dust cleared. Anyone wants it I'll email it to them.

I have another that is too big of an F-18 just after takeoff, maybe 6-10 feet off the runway w/ an engine WAY on fire. It's really quite a pic. email me for it.

Re: DC10s

Spooky. I remember those issues about the engines. All because of a three-inch long screw if memory serves me correctly. Yikes...
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Actually, it wasn't just the fact that the engine left the plane. Yes, having an engine fall off is a bad thing. But when it left it took out the hydraulics on that side. The leading edge flaps retracted without any pressure holding them in place. So the left wing began to stall. That's what rolled the plane over. They figured later that had the crew leveled the plane and gained airspeed they could have flown out of it. But hell, hind sight is 20/20. It brought about some changes.

Pretty cool one here, that I had never heard of http://www.aviationpics.de/preview/hc1det207.jpg

Although the caption is slightly misleading, it sounds like we dumped (5 is what I have heard) South Vietnamese Hueys off the Midway during the evacuation to make room for our own birds.
