sinker 0 #1 March 12, 2003 ok, so there are very VERY few radio stations in Nashville that play music that I like. IMHO, country music rots the brain. And the only stations I listen to have stupid morning shows on ALL damn morning... they used to be over about 9. Now it's 10:15 am and they are playing the Bob and Tom rewind. SH*T! Play some freakin music for cripesakes!!! -the artist formerly known as sinker

Play some freakin music for cripesakes!!! Country has its roots in American folk, which in turn has its roots in folk music from the British Isles. If you want to have a worthwhile music experience, spend some time with Brit/Irish/Celtic folk music, or with its legitimate offspring, now referred to as American country music's "Golden Age" (Hank Williams Sr., Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, et al), not that sh*t from modern Nashville (which once rejected Dwight Yoakam for being "too country"). There are some decent "modern" C/W acts - Diamond Rio comes to mind, but I'm biased because Jimmy Olander is a skydiver...hehehe"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." ChasingBlueSky 0 #8 March 12, 2003 Internet radio - you don't need to pay for it like XM radio. But I like XM & Sirius and would get it if I had the cash to spend on it. Plenty of legal free music out there in MP3 format as well....or there is always the P2P route. Get a MP3 player for the car. Why do you need radio? They censor music, play commercials, rarely play deep cuts anymore, and if you went to R&R, FMQB or even Billboard you would see every station in the same format across the country play the same exact songs. Ever since the deregulation of the market in the early 90's radio has gone to hell. You have syndication giving you the same talk-radio views, same cookie cutter DJ's telling the same jokes and sound clips from joke lists they subscribe to. It will only get worse as the FCC is in the process of changing its rules again. You will have less variety in the future as 3-4 companies will own all the stations in the country (much like TV - and how much variety and cutting edge shows do you see on Broadcast TV anymore). All the old, family run stations in the country were bought out years ago - and the market survey research is saying how every single station should sound like. Until something similar to cable-TV for radio becomes a standard, the standardization of radio stations will only get worse. The stations that allowed the cutting edge entertainment that produced the best radio talent over the years, or those stations that played songs outside of the Top 40 are a thing of the past._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... BikerBabe 0 #11 March 13, 2003 ClearChannel and the like have ruined radio. Just listen to any of their stations. Same shit over and over, no more local contests (have you noticed all the contests are no "nationwide"?), and just try to request something. The playlists all come from the central computer at headquarters. My vote, try to find an independent/college station. They actually have CD's in the studio and probably will be able to play what you want to hear, if you call and make a request. Here's a really kickass example: http://www.woxy.com/ It's really alternative, so don't be surprised if they play a lot of stuff you've never heard before. That's OK...this is the station that had me listening to Sarah McLachlan, STP, Tori Amos, and many others waaaaay before they were widely popular.Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! Zeemax 0 #12 March 13, 2003 they probably actually have studios... the majority of clear channels output is networked. A feed is taken from one studio and routed to local transmitters through local TSA'aPhoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies
Biscuit 0 #13 March 13, 2003 The only real way to avoid crappy radio is to listen to Public Radio. It can be streamed on the web. www.npr.org www.kplu.org Not that I work there or anything. ****************************************** The last mosquito that bit me had to book into the Betty Ford Clinic. -Patsy

BikerBabe 0 #15 March 13, 2003 Yep, 97x is run from a little building in my hometown of Oxford, OH. And it's definitely one of the best stations in the country. Read the reviews in the "About Us" section"... Here's some other good ones: http://www.ktao.com/ This one is truly local to Taos, but really funky...they play some cool local New Mexico stuff, as well as more "mainstream" music. www.kfog.com - A good rock station out of San Fran...excellent music and good variety.Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
