did you get my wake up call? all i got was your voice mail when i called at 3:30 in the morning my time.

Yep, i heard the phone ringing but was too tired to reach over and answer it. No worries though, we got up. Me, Lolie, and Travis managed to all squeeze in the same bed last night. I can't beleive we were able to sleep at all. :)

I bet ya'll slept better than I did!! That Otter ride was DAMN COLD!! At least we had an extra sleeping bag (THANKS TRAVIS!). The three of us on the plane snuggles under that and against each other and managed to at least stay somewhat warm... although I didn't get any sleep.

All I can say about my weekend is "wow!" I had a blast!

It was great meeting all of you... Travis, Lolie, Sunshine, Jonno, Craig... and seeing you again Kevin... and everyone else I may have forgotten!

Wow! :D

You're so very welcome- altho I wish we could have had some on a plane!

I finally got home yesterday at about 6pm. After waiting at the airport from 1am to 6am for my flight it was canceled at about 8am, making me miss all flights that could have got me to chicago on time to catch my connecting flight- instead they routed me to memphis, then to STL, then to lincoln. It was a huge fiasco and I will NEVER fly united again- nor do I suggest anyone else do such a thing either. I just wanted to get home, and if it wasn't for the nice lady at American getting me a boarding pass w/o standing in line w/ litterally a hundred other people, or while being personally scanned and the security knowing what a sport rig was I would have never caught my flight to finally get me home. I got to gate 38 way at the end of the terminal just as they were calling my name for the last time.

I loved the people at the gold coast- they went out of their way to get everything straighted out for us after our bus broke down (THANK YOU!!!), but the weather sucked and air transportation to and from there is a huge hassle- or at least was for me. I doubt I'll be back but I hope to see each of you at other boogies- dont' forget couchfreaks!

I've got quite a few pics and as soon as I recover a little more I'll be sure to post them.

Man that sucks! Sounds worse than when I was coming down and got re-routed and whatnot. Can't wait to see the pics! Btw can I post the video I got of you? :-) (or do you even remember that??)

Chris-

What went wrong was I booked a ticket on United.

Seriously tho- something about a windsheild defroster thing. They tried to get it fixed but after 2 hours they canceled the flight, throwing their hands in the air and staranding me in bfe.

So you'd rather fly with a broken airplane? Do you realise it gets cold at 35,000 feet? We have to have window heat going all the time. Sheeeesh. You make a blanket statement about not flying United because they tried to be safe. So I assume your flight on American was on United's dime? Sure it sucks to get delayed. But at least they didn't want to delay you any longer and got you on another carrier so you could get home. They could have just left you waiting for ever for the next United flight. You got home so I guess you weren't too stranded. Or did you have to buy another ticket to get on American?

Sorry for being defensive but since I make my money from United I get a bit uppity.

I'll take a step back here and qualify my united statement. On my way to Birmingham, I left Lincoln fine, then spent 4 hours in chicago listening to them and their excuses why our plane wasn't there, on it's way over to our gate, ect. They didn't want us to leave the gate area because it might be just 5 more minutes... yada yada... I finally got to Birmingham at 3am.

On my way out of birmingham, we start to board the plane at 5:45am, pulled the gate away when the piliot asks for 5 more minutes to check the windsheild. 5 becomes 10 and then becomes 15. He then asks us to unboard the plane just so we'll be comfortable. Two hours later, come to find out a mechanic is just now heading over and they're canceling the flight. Fine-I take off in a mad dash to get to the front ticketing to be rerouted from birmingham to memphis to st. louis to lincoln. There's a carrier change and the guy at united couldn't get me boarding passes all the way thru to lincoln but can get my luggage there. I had a half hour to get from one terminal, thru ticketing, security and down to gate 38. I got to the gate as they were calling my name for the last time. I finally got home at 5pm, instead of the noon I was booked for.

I"m all about getting on a safe plane- I prefer it that way, but aren't these checks supposed to be done before people get on the plane? Why did they wait two hours to cancel the flight when the mechanic wasn't showing up? Why did they not just cancel the flight out of chicago when they didn't have an available plane? Sure I got home, but traveling with United is an inconvienence I would care not to repeat. It's not personal...

I think they try to do maintainance to the plane while people are boarding/getting off so they can save some time (money). Once they found the problem and decided it couldn't be fixed in a reasonable amount of time, they decided to cancel it. I agree that the experience was crappy, but you shouldn't base the rest of your trips on that one flight being cancelled. Although, you have that right, of course. ;)

As far as getting your new ticket when they cancelled, I have read several places that when that happens, EVERYONE rushes to one of the ticket counters and you know how busy that can get. They recommend that you call the 800 number on the ticket for customer service and they can usually get you your new tickets and onto another flight LONG before you'll get through a long line of pissed of customers. Basically you bypass the line and speak right to someone that can get it done over the phone.

Good luck next time. (BTW... Delta lost my luggage TWICE on one trip about 10 years ago. Ouch ! I haven't flown with them since. ;))

Sounds like my experince with NorthWest, I avoid flying them like the plague now.

On one trip from Fargo to houston, turbo-prop from Fargo to Minniapolis.....WAY to much turbulance flying over downtown, almost needed the little bag (not carriers fault). Run to my connection since it was only suppose to be a 30 min lay over. Plane isn't there yet delayed for an hr. plane arrives, get ready to board, they said there would be a slight delay. 3 hrs later, I go up to see about getting on another flight, they said it should only be another 30 min or so. So I go back to sit and wait. 2 hrs later they cancel the flight due to mechanical problems. There are no other flights out to Houston. So being stuck in MN wouldn't be so bad, but the airline wouldn't even put the people up in a hotel. Ended up spending the night at the airport, since due to weather other flights were cancelled and all the hotels in the area were booked. Then I had to fight with ticketing to get on the 1st flight of the morning since they booked everyone from that flight on the daytime flights since there was plenty of room on those.

My lugage arrived 2 days later. [:/]

Every time I flew with them before and after something always seemed to happen, but that one was definately the worst. So as long as there are other options I won't fly NW.

Fly it like you stole it!
