jfields 0 #3 March 12, 2003 Jim, Chances are negligable that the message was actually from anyone remotely related to AIM. Probably just another scam that can be disregarded.
RevJim 0 #4 March 12, 2003 Actually, i can't sign on to aol im at all. Every time i try, i get that message, and it directs me to this website. http://www.aim.aol.com/errors/SUSPENDED.htmlIt's your life, live it! misskriss 0 #5 March 12, 2003 AOL will never ask for credit card numbers like that......EVER...
jfields 0 #6 March 12, 2003 Wow. I thought you were talking about an e-mail message. I'm not sure how they plan to pull that one off. It doesn't take a credit card to register in the first place, so why should you be required to have one later on. If they stick to that, then I think you're right about the Yahoo thing.
Casch 0 #7 March 12, 2003 That makes absolutely no sense. You can enter any birthdate you want, no questions asked when you start your account. But if you accidently enter it incorrectly, you have to give them your CCN? That's BS. If they're trying to protect children from accessing the adult chats etc, they should require Age verification in the first place.
RevJim 0 #8 March 12, 2003 Strange part too, when i registered this screen name some time ago, I used my real birth date, and I'm 32! I sent a nice email, but it looks like I'm going to be staying away from them now. I was considering them for my dial up isp while I'm on the road, for the sheer volume of available numbers, but now I think I'll stick with my 14.4 sprint pcs phone. It's your life, live it! cuchulinn 0 #9 March 12, 2003 I'd call AOL and ask them about that web site your getting directed to. AOL never ever asked for a credit card number so this must be some sort of elaborate scam using AOL's own graphics tro make it look official. KawiZX900 0 #10 March 12, 2003 i experienced that once before, very crafty virus you've got.it does it everytime you use aol. same shit happened to me around a year ago. fucked my shit up for weeks.i no longer use aolgive it a bullshit # Accelerate hard to get them looking, then slam on the fronts and rollright beside the car, hanging the back wheel at eye level for a few seconds. flyingferret 0 #12 March 12, 2003 Yeah, sounds like a virus. Download Trillian. It lets you use all the messaging systems. http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/ Watch scams like that. I got one from ebay the other day that was very close to convincing.-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
PhillyKev 0 #13 March 12, 2003 QuoteYeah, sounds like a virus Nope....the website he posted is on their domain on their servers. It's legitimate, albeit f'd up.

cuchulinn 0 #15 March 12, 2003 That's just it, it very well may not be their domain. We got nailed last year by a "Secret Admirer" scam where it pulled up an AOL domain screen (or so they thought) and it asked you to put in your screen name and password and receive your "secret Admirer" card. the Next day, AOL shut our account down for Porno solicitation. After I called they told me what had happened. So do not believe your actually going to an AOL domain, especially if it asks for either a CC or Screen name and password. konradptr 0 #16 March 12, 2003 I read an article in one of my business journals that AOL-TimeWarner was looking at how to get some income from the most popular, and free, service. Sounds like they are beginning to tighten the reigns. I would also recommend Trillian, it is one program that controls AOLIM, YahooMessenger, ICQ, etc... Very easy to use, and no AOL BS!!! ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......
PhillyKev 0 #17 March 12, 2003 Dude...go to the link. It is in their domain. The only way it could be faked is if your DNS server was bypassed somehow with a static route statement on your pc or something like that. But then everyone wouldn't go there, just you would. Plus I did a tracert and the ip address it resolves to is in the range that AOL owns.
skymama 37 #18 March 12, 2003 How does Trillian work? Do you log in, and all of your buddy names from the 3 different IM companies combined into one big list? Or, are they still separate, but it justs saves you from logging in at all 3 places? She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
cuchulinn 0 #19 March 12, 2003 Damn... I'm going to call them now, just cause I want to know what's going on! More to follow! SMA#
konradptr 0 #20 March 12, 2003 Pretty much it is one program that loads up, but it has your user names and passwords saved. Then, just like AOL talks to AOL, Trillian talks to all of them for you, so if you have AOL/YM/ICQ, talking to people on all three is really no different than talking to all of them on just one of the services... There are little x's and check's that tell you which ones are connected.. Very easy, very simple, and very convienient... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......
flyingferret 0 #21 March 12, 2003 Andrea it rulez! You can set it up anyway you want. Login into all and/or any network seperately. Organize contacts by network or groups. For instance in my 'Friflaj' contact group, I have peopl efrom AIM and MSN. It is very cool. Give it a shot. Plus they guarantee total freeware with no spyware. Although in this case, you still have to have a functioning account. Rev, I would have to look closer.
