March Skydiving mag?

We got ours here today.

Skybytch in California gets her's before me, and I live less than 100 miles from where it is published. I would say the postal carrier (mail person?) is reading mine, but I'm not sure he can.
Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

Heehee, oh THAT'S why you wanted us to see the magazine! ;) Yes, I noticed the ad and laughed. A certain internet joke that's been posted here a hundred times came to mind. And then that 25% off and free shipping piqued my interest too!

And you won't. Neither mag is listed. The mags are published for a specialty market. For the same reason, you won't see "Dentistry Today" on any news stand. It's too specialized and narrow of focus to appeal to the average whuffo.

OTOH, magazine covers featuring hot rods being fawned over by bikini-clad honeys with big bazooms will have more "mass appeal"...heh >:(

I'd love to see Skydiving on my local newstand, 'cause I'd get paid more (tee-hee), but that's just the way it is.[:/]

The local Tower Books here in Nashville used to carry both Parachutist and Skydiving. They stopped Parachutist first since it wasn't selling, but kept skydiving on for a while longer. Then, the whole store closed. sad, really.

[:/] --> for Jan. I'd share mine, but you're kinda far away.

Gee, thanks, how nice of you, but there is a big distance between us, huh? It will eventually arrive, at least it better!

I'm surprised it was stocked at all. Extraordinary.

Both magazines are listed in the Index of Periodicals and the Whole Writers' Catalog, so I suppose that a stand owner might take a chance and put some on the rack. Very unusual though.

I was referring to the mass market, but there are some very offbeat magazines at the more eclectic stands - you need only ask for it, same as you would go into a grocery store and request an unusual foodstuff (or a case of Fosters', as a friend of mine once did). Your money talks.

I'm pretty sure that USPA stopped distributing Parachutist independently and only send it to members now. Remember reading something along those lines on the uspa web site.

This may be helpful:

Parachutist is a "feature" magazine with a small circulation. Although there are a few "timely" bits in it, most of the content is determined months in advance, so they can usually get it out the door on time.

Skydiving is a "news" magazine, with a much bigger circulation. The content is more or less the opposite of Parachutist; i.e. it is driven more by "timely" material, and features take up less space proportionately.

The dependence on "timely" content makes the margins for preparation of the magazine much narrower.

Am I the last one to receive their copy? I swear everyone at the post office must have read it before delivering it to me! :(

Mine arrived today. It's typical that it arrives around the 15th of each month. Since I get Parachutist a week earlier or so, I get to pace my reading.
