What the heck does it mean.."connecting to mserv1"
when I log onto the internet at work now? I know the office manager has been tinkering around with the IT guy..and I know she can see where I go because we receive lists. (yup)..She went into my Explorer and changed something the other day..and now it will say mserv1 instead of finding site blah blah blah.
thanks. just curious.

Its probally a copy of MS Proxy 2.0 installed that they are using. Luckkly all that MS Proxy does is logging of website URL's. It'll generate a nice report showing when you went to a site, how times you click on something and how long you stay there. It will also speed up your internet at frequently accessed pages. I'd avoid sites that consume a lot of time and are personal (like here) until you find out what the purpose of the proxy is. I know we use internet reports to terminate about 2 people per month at my business. (I'm in charge of the filtering and reporting)

As far as monitoring goes... get used to it. Almost 65% (gartner #'s) of companies use some form of internet tracking or filtering software. a lot of companies use keytword filtering software for emails. This is one way to reduce the amount of spam inbound. And any nosey System Admin can read all your emails anyways. I once found out a girl at work was pregnant from an affair before her husband knew since she was email a friend about it and it had enough keywords it was flagged for review.

Oh, I am used to the monitoring by now. It is so bad that one woman even monitors personal conversations in my office..I am sure she reads my internal emails too, just not sure if she can find out my personal passwords to Hotmail or my Outlook.

If its data coming in or out of the company they can examine it if its on a proxy server. MS proxy basically saves all pages to its internal storage and then sends them to your computer once the request is made. For stuff like msn.com and CNN.com its great since the contenct hardly changes in a day and instead of going to the internet every times its just making the request from the server in your office, that means the pages load REALLY fast. On the downside is it makes local copies of all your pages too. And outlook using POP3 means your account name and password are all of about 2 seconds from being read.
