have a quick question

Recommended Posts

I have a quick question for you. I just want to know how many people might be interested in this idea. I am a photographer on the side and always like making a little extra money at it. I was wondering how interested poeple would be if someone was on the ground taking pictures of the landing and flight with a zoom lens. Say on a boogie pictures could be taken one day and put on display the next. Would anyone be interested in purchasing an 8x10 and then it could be mails to their home address. just let me know. Kinda exited about just taking the picture anyway.

The DZO's wife does this at my DZ. She uses an Olympus digitcal camera (that's a SLR and is something like 4.5 megapixel, really high end), burns something like 100 shots onto CD and sells the CDs for $20.

She also sells prints for some price, I can't remember what, though.

This is a big deal for the Tandems, since they get a lot of shots the vidioit can't get.

An extremely difficult thing you just proposed there. You need a really freaking big lense, a moinster tripod to hold the weight, and lightling quick reflexes to keep them framed and take pictures.

Let me guess.....you watched Cutaway?

;)

Edit: Damnit, Dave beat me with a serious post. Damn post whores!

Ahhh, canopy ride stuff. You're right, the 300 would be plenty for that. I assumed you meant freefall formation pics from underneath, where an 800 wouldn't be overkill, and a 1000 would be cool, just really, really heavy.

Before I left gold coast a guy was doing that, he went out and bought a photo printer which accepted memory cards.. would go take pictures of landings and if you liked it he would print it right there.. i think he sold 8x10s for like 5 or 10 bucks. Not sure how many he did, but was a neat idea.. didn't need a computer or anything just slapped the memory into the printer and away he went.

What dropzone would you try to do this at? Marana?
I'd suggest asking people before the go up on a load if they are interested at all. If so, shoot a few of them landing, if not, don't waste your film.
Are you using film or digital? Digital would be best of course, so you can just delete the image file if the person doesn't want it, no cost. Then you need a really good printer if they do want it.
People that have a lot of jumps are likely to already have photos of themselves landing/under canopy, but it's worth a try. You could also ask the DZ if you could propose the idea to students, they'd be more likely to want a good photo of themselves under a parachute. That is if they haven't already ordered video/stills from a videographer.
