am I homeless?

Recommended Posts

I'm confused about which dz is my home dz. I was bored on the airplane yesterday and made a spreadsheet of how many jumps at each dz and I have 182 (exactly 1/3 of the total) at Perris (7 hour drive) and 180 at Byron (where I went through AFF and only a 1 hour drive). When I am at home in the bay area, lately, I jump at Monterey. So, besides the fact that I must be crazy to sit down and add all that crap up, I have created for myself a sense of being a lost jumper without a home dz... Anyone have any opinions on which dz is my home? Anyone give a rats' *ss?

most of us men have a "fear of commitment"
it's not that we are afraid, we just find better things elswhere, and we are always looking. It's our nature!! consider your self a free fly pimp. use one for what it has and move to the next! no harm in getting everything good, granted you have to travel, but there is always a price!

;) we need a little pimp icon!

I think that it is Monterey. Heck, I drive 3+ hours to jump there. But when you have a Twin Otter, the great view of the Monterey Bay you gotta love it.

Even this weekend, The DZ was open and when the clouds cleared, we were jumping from the Otter and the Cessna.

I think your home will be where you want to go and spend the day.

Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!

Yeah, like HE said.. Just remember, sometime's it's better to NOT tell that particular DZ that you've been involved with that you want to be "Just friends"

honesty is key!

if you tell one DZ that you are going to different DZ
the first will try to keep you and might give you a little extra sumptin!

Hate the player...not the game!!!!

When the DZ is calling you at all hours of the day n nite begging you to come jump, well, you get the point

Your current DZ is out of circumstance... it is not your home. I believe that where ever I jump, is where you should jump.

I'll be some where this weekend, Expect to be there!>:(

Clearly you have too much time on your hands.
And here I thought your web cam would keep you busy for a while.

Well my Brother, here is my deal-
I dont claim a home dz. I never have, even when I was only jumping one dz.

I have 5 dropzones to pick from here in Houston.
3 are within 30-45 minutes
2 are about an hour to an hour and 1/2
Several more are within 4 hours.

I personally dont like the feel of naming a home dz.
One dz might be super great for a day, then the next place I go - that one was super great.

If I went to Perris, Ellsinor, Florida, NC, Chicago, Ohio, Ok, and just about anywhere else - I would have sky family.

Having a sky family member just about everywhere is mostly due to forums like this one. But even more importantly, the people that are open and nice to the new jumpers that visit their dz. This practice will keep jumpers coming back.

In my honest opinion, its paramount for somebody to talk to the new person. (Not a S & TA, a regular jumper) Make them feel comfortable, show them around, indicate landing area and outs. In addition, and any home rule advantages. (Swoopers area, Student areas, etc)

I could list the million times I have grabbed a new person and introduced them to the right people. Like RW types or FF types, whatever their level was and whatever their interests were.

I just liked to do it. The DZ Princess deal. The only time the DZO had a comment other than -"Hey Ann, there is somebody that needs help"- was once when he laughed and said- "Ann! Wait till they get out of their car."

Just hoping I can inspire one person to go up to a new person and say, Hi.

Its all good. This has nothing, per se, to do with your original post other than - I dont give a rats ass, but I will sell them to you for $4 a pound.

Thanks everyone. Yes, Ann, I had too much time on my hands on the way back from San Carlos. OK, I no longer feel the need to call a physical place my home dz. I was just having an identity crisis. It was sort of brought on by all my new friends in San Carlos asking which dz I jump at and having a hard time explaining that it's not just one. So now whenever anyone asks, I will just tell them "the world is my dropzone, the flat spots anyway". Starting with my profile which always annoyed me to have to put one there... B|
