bbarnhouse 0 #1 March 19, 2003 So there I was....early morning, it was damn cold for Arizona even with three layers and gloves. I was on a mission. The task before me seemed overwhelming, but I grabbed the tools required and headed out. I was glad that it had rained, the ground in the desert can be unyielding. I see canopies overhead and recognize them immediatley, noticing that even they were having a difficult time landing in the wind. I kept on trekking to the far side of the landing area and beyond. I arrived at my destination determined to get the job done. I start with a shovel and am joined by two commrades who begin diggin in earnest. People are curious and stand about watching as we toil and play in the dirt....this continues all day and well into the evening. Our goal is clear, we were overwrought with physical exhaustion... but Damnit Aggie Dave....by Wednesday Eloy will have at least 1 of the3 swoop ponds filled with water! LOL I know that I will probably never swoop the ponds, but I have lots of friends who will. I may have blisters on my hands, and an aching back. In the end, I will have the joy of watching some of the best canopy fliers swoop those ponds, and know that I had a hand in the creation of them. Enjoy everyone...and be safe out there!
