DivaSkyChick 0 #1 March 20, 2003 I just watched my neighbor's super sweet, massive pitbull let loose on an even larger, also super sweet rotweiller who lives next door. Both owners were at fault, the rotty gets out all the time bc his owners have crappy fences. The Pit is really gentle with people. A few times in the past when he was off leash and I was walking my much smaller female mutt off leash, he came running up to check us out and I scared the shit out of him by yelling "back off." Anyway, he grew up and got nasty and his owner walks him thru the neighborhood on a huge chain. However, tonight, as the rotty was off leash and both dogs are uncut, the pit's owner let him go so as not to get caught between them. The screams were horrifying. Christiaan and I ran out, aimed a hose on them but nothing would make the pit let go. Eventually I yelled at his owner about calling cops and he got the chain in the pits mouth, pulling him off. We told both owners to fix their problems or we'd bring the authorities in. The pit is uncontrollable when he gets going and had that been my dog, she'd be dead. No more off leash walks for us. The rotty shouldn't have been out and perhaps the pit would have been controlable had the rotty not run right at him... Sooooooo that long story to ask - should I call animal control? I do NOT want to because I don't want either dog to be put down. I just want both owners to see the light. Furthermore, the rotty needs to go to the hospital tonight and I know for a fact the owner won't do it. I told his wife that if I see the rotty tomorrow and he doesn't have stiches, I will definitely call animal control, as that is abuse. Anyway, all threats aside, I can't see risking their lives... am I wrong? What's the consensus? --- www.facebook.com/mandyhamptonfitch
freefallfreak 0 #2 March 20, 2003 Yes, by all means...Animal control probably won't put the dogs down but they WILL give the owners (who sound pretty irresponsible to me ie: crappy fences and no vet) a summons to go to court. Maybe they'll learn to take better care of their pets. FFF
Tonto 1 #3 March 20, 2003 Are there kids in your area? Kids sometimes tease animals - and each other. If that pit gets them - they're dead. I'm not much of a dog person - but I've had a few Great Danes, a spaniel, a few Jack Russels. I have a Pit story. My dad was getting out of the car at the bank. As his foot touched the ground, he started screaming. He was 60 at the time. I heard "dog noises" so I knew what it was. I rushed around the car, and there was the owner, scared shitless to get in the way of his dog, who was eating my dad. I shot the dog. My dad took about 6 months to recover. The whole incident must have lasted 20 seconds from start to finish. The fact that you're writing this means that you know what you should do. It's not the dog's fault. It's the breeders - and the owners.t It's the year of the Pig.
DivaSkyChick 0 #4 March 20, 2003 Loads of kids... Summer evenings in my neighborhood consist of dodging footballs, skateboards and ice cream trucks. Damn. --- www.facebook.com/mandyhamptonfitch
skymama 37 #5 March 20, 2003 I think you need to call since there are kids in the area. Just a couple of weeks ago there was an incident in my area of a pit bull that ran out of a house when the owner opened the door at the same time kids were walking home from school. It caught one kid and ended up totally ripping his ear off. Please call, this dog obviously has attack tendencies. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
mouth 0 #6 March 20, 2003 I have seen up close what a crazed dog can do to a child. Trust me it isn't pretty. If the owners are not going to try to control their animals then you as a responsible neighbor need to contact authorities before soemone bets hurt. Next time it may be a child instead of another dog. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit.
rhino 0 #7 March 20, 2003 Quoteshould I call animal control? IMMEDIATELY.. What if that PIT got ahold of a child?
skydivegirl 0 #8 March 20, 2003 I totally understand why you'd want animal control to be your last resort. But considering you don't think one of the dogs will even get the medical care it needs.. I think you may need to go ahead and call. That's just sad. Since you said the dog is walked on a huge chain, it sounds like the owner wants it (and raised it) to be aggressive. It may have been a sweet dog under different circumstances. That sooo pisses me off! And like everyone else has said... what if it goes after a neighborhood kid. Good luck, let us know what happens.Pink Mafia Sis #
AggieDave 6 #9 March 20, 2003 Make the Call, NOW! Otherwise you're going to be writing a story before too long about how you should have called and now some kid is dead.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." flyingferret 0 #10 March 20, 2003 Without a doubt, make the call. Any owner that hesitate to get in front of their own dog, needs a good reckoning in my opinion. If the don't trust it, how should anyone else?-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
meatmissile 0 #11 March 20, 2003 Quote I shot the dog. In cases like that it is the owner that should be shot. No animal can be held accountable for his actions. But I guess you did what I would have done in your place. -- ZZZzzzz....
