Dropzone.com 2002 Character of Year

Recommended Posts

Reading through TIME magazine's persons of the year article....

So who do you think was the Dropzone.com character of 2002? Post your nominations and explain why you're nominating the person. You can PM me as well but you need to make a case if you want me to consider someone. I will select the finalists and put up a poll towards the end of the year or into next year for you to vote on. :)
It can be someone who've done a great job of helping people on here, someone who became "famous" through a single incident or, and all-rounder, or... well, or just a character!

I would like to jump the gun on Chuck by nominating spectre230.... ;)

(PS: I'm selecting the finalists so I can not be nominated. Besides... I'll just rig the vote and win.... ;))

I would like to nominate Bill Von.

Though Bill and I may not see eye to eye on a few subjects, he always is willing to help, has a wealth of information available to him, and readily shares it.

I'd like to nominate Michele! She not only got national recognition for DZ.com by wearing her shirt on ESPN, but she is always helping anyone who needs help, offering an encouraging word, and enthralling us with her wonderfully written stories. These forums wouldn't be the same without her!

I'm walking a marathon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Click Here for more information!

I would have to nominate Michele. She represented skydivers and dz.com on ESPN, she always is helpful with a heart of 'gold' and such a great writer that she has all of us looking forward to her posts.

I'd like to cast my vote for skybytch.

Shes shown great strength and leadership as a role model for the women in our sport. She is always helpful when people have questions or need help no matter if the problem at hand is skydiving related or personal. Her achievements this year have reminded us all to keep reaching for our own dreams.

Toss up, so I'll nominate both: Billvon and Hooknswoop.

Both for their valuable info and experience, shared on many occasions, on important topics.

For me, that's what these forums are mostly for, to learn how to have a long, successful, SAFE skydiving career.

Cheers,

No Spectre230 huh? Clinton is already nominated... how about Treetop then;)?

Skreamer for his great spotting abilities, Skybytch for her JFTC and WFFC contrabitions, BillVon for his knowledge and 300 way coverage, Hooknswoop for all the gear info, Chuckie for putting all the monkeys back in their place when they talked some smack.

Finally the rigger that saved your rear in Spain... Without him we'd all be home(owner) less.

And tomorrow is a mystery

LOL Believe it or not, he is the one I thought about too. TIME's man of the year doesn't necessarily have to be the nicest or the one who accomplished the most, so why not really have a Character of the Year - and he is a character.:P

I intend to live forever -- so far, so good.

I nominate Jessica! And not just because I think she's cool....and not because we're going to have a hot-shit 4-way team some day.....

She writes awesome stories on here all the time. She's great with comebacks. And she has enough passion for the sport to try to do everything she can with it (tunnel, rigging, coach's rating) even though she's bound by a job with evil hours. And, she drinks beer! Nothing better than a belly-flyin, beer-drinking girl!

Because....as we all know by now...(all together now)....this ain't no damn democracy !

Lisa, Jess, Billvon, Michele, Clay....they're all great nominations. i guess it all comes down to what each of us is looking for on this site....knowledge ? comiseration ? humor ?

And I second Mandy's thought.....even though I'm not going to Eloy, the job Betsy has done in putting this all together for those attending has been nothing short of awesome.

I'm glad I've got some time to think on this...:)

Don

(ps....I WOULD nominate Skreamer as well, but we probably wouldn't be able to find him in time for the awards ceremony....)
