Rdutch 0 #1 March 22, 2003 Great news!!! I just picked up my canopy from the Deland PD, they had to do a little persuasion with the guy and let him know that right now no charges are pending but if didn't turn it over, they would be forced to arrest him as the evidence was good enough. So he, after denying the fact replied oh is that one of those things with the strings on it? Oh I found one of those in the woods the other day. So the F-er gave it back and its unharmed, except he took it off the risers and untangled it, I asume he was prepping it to add to his collection of wall trophies. I did get to tell the police that the other canopies have serial #'s and the USPA web site has an list of all stolen/lost canopies reported. They said that after dealing with him they wont mind looking into it. So great new's Im happy. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!

I bet Joe's canopy is on his wall (one of the old Airspeed Velocities - 103) He had a cut away and it landed over in that area, never to be seen again. JJohnson 0 #8 March 22, 2003 Fuckin awesome. I'm ytuly glad you got your chute back unharmed and I really hopr the cops follow through on the rest of his trophy stash. Maybe you should give them the link to USPA to get the list and help push them along. I'm sure there would be some grateful skydivers.JJ "Call me Darth Balls"
riddler 0 #9 March 23, 2003 Good job! Be sure to let us know if there's any news on the other canopies. Seems like additional charges should be brought up if there's evidence that he's habitual.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
wmw999 2,558 #10 March 23, 2003 Good job! Sounds like a good time to bring cookies over to the police station as a thank you for getting yours back without his damaging it or tossing it to avoid prosecution! Now let's hope he doesn't avoid prosecution... Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
Zenister 0 #11 March 23, 2003 oh yeah press charges...hell if he's got 3 stolen canopies on his wall, thats grand theft. (or pretty close depending) be sure to give him some vaseline for giving yours back as they drag him off...
airgord 1 #12 March 23, 2003 Glad to hear you got your canopy back, however if you do press charges what happens the next time a canopy ends up on this clowns property? If he was stupid enough to try to keep it knowing that he was prosecuted for the same thing, what would keep him from tossing it into the burn barrel, toss a little gas and a match, canopy, what canopy? He'll be stinging from the courts and he'll want some payback. What I'm trying get at is every DZ needs more friends and NO enemies. I think that hanging F+++ks like this guy by his stones would be too good for him but the other neighbors would be sure to hear only this guys side of the story. Good luck. Rdutch 0 #16 March 23, 2003 QuotePress charges! I lost my first canopy at Deland the same way 11 years ago. Precision Falcon 265, serial # 1799242. CDR IS it all white? The canopy on his wall is all white, About the pressing charges, I just wanted it back, so the police told him that he had 2 choices return it or he was under arrest, if they arrested him he might have been inclined to destroy the evidence and I was afraid of that. Also if I did press charges they would have to keep my canopy as evidence until the court date. But now he know's that it is illegal to take these thing's, there have been other previous incedents with this guy. Hopefully no more were actually going to use the catch more bee's with honey approach by letting him know that there is usually a small reward for returned canopie's, since he is in an area that is prime for cutaway landing's.
