Computer Question

Recommended Posts

If you stick the XP Pro CD in and run setup again there is a repair option - worth a try mebbe.
Are you logged on with admionistrator priviledges? Maybe non admins can't do anything in taskmgr.

You will notice I'm guessing here ;)

It's my machine at home, just started doing it. If I don't have full admin rights, there's something seriously wrong ;):)

or it could be your gf is the computer wiz and doesn't allow you to have admin rights cause she knows you are going to load something on, hose the whole system up so bad that she has no choice but to rebuild it.:D;)

Ahh, in that case do the following until the problem goes away:

Logoff and logon
Restart
Poweroff and poweron
Poweroff and go down the dz, then poweron when you get back
Poweroff, sell the box, go down the dz, come back, buy another box, poweron
Power off, sell the box, divorce the wife, sell the house, buy an RV, go down the dz, buy 10,000 jump tickets, fuck the computer you didn't need one anyway

:P;)B|:P

got the CD handy?

Throw it in, drop to the command prompt, and run 'sfc.exe' - aka system file checker. It should find any corrupt problems.

If you can't do that, try a scan disk. My Computer, right click on your 'C:' drive, click tools, then 'Check Now'. It probably won't check, but offer to check on the next reboot. Say yes, then reboot.

Can anyone explain why my Task Manager looks like this ie. not title bar etc. Won't even accept right clicks on the button in the taskbar (only way to close it is via the little graph in the sys tray). Any ideas on how to sort it? :)

Double click the bottom of the Task Manager window just to the left of the three buttons. This toggles the view back to what you are used to seeing.
