The Origins of "War"

Recommended Posts

War started off as "The Creators" in Los Angeles in 1962. The members were Howard Scott, Harold Brown, Lonie Jowrdan, BB Dickerson and Charles Miller. After a few changes and years (adding Papa Dee Allen), they became Decon Jones' backup band.

When Eric Burdon of the Animals heard them rehearse, he brought in Lee Oskar and then he toured with the band. This was 1969.

In 1970, "Eric Burdon Declares War" was released. They toured. In 1971 in Europe, Eric Burdon quit the band because he was tired. War continued.

Of course, War now has a mainstay audience and is still recoding and touring. They are best known by their hits, "Cisco Kid," "Low Rider," and "Why Can't We Be Friends." Lesser known hits include "Nappy Head" and "The World is a Ghetto."
