Islandcool 0 #1 March 24, 2003 So there I was..... We get all kinds of folks at the DZ making tandem jumps as I'm sure you folks also do. Well today it was some students from Israel. They go to college here. One good looking hunny. Low riders tight top ya know the avg young'n and 3 other dudes but a little more old school...let's say taditional. Big Beards, yamikas, the whole package. Well of of these guys is just a rock. Not scared...ready to do it..goes up does the tandem walks off the landing area as calm as can be. I was blown away...usually it's "oh my god it was soooo amazing...so on and so forth..you all know the drill. Anyway the video is a riot because these guys beards are doing some cool shit in freefall. Funny as hell. Of course I'm tired and I start getting goofy..what is they got it to it and started a freefly team..."Head Down Hebrews"..man that would be sweet with those beards. Wow...that story sucked. I gotta get some sleep. So seen any memorable characters at your DZ lately? Ed

sinker 0 #4 March 24, 2003 saw a tandem this weekend after my second jump o'the day, winds had picked up, TM went downwind too long, when he turned to base he noticed he would have landed on a hangar, so he whipped a 180 and landed downwind off of the dz, hard landing and the dude in front totally wrenched his back. felt bad for the chap, we had waited all day for his turn to jump, was so ready for it. On the ride up he was so excited, didn't seem anxious at all. After opening, I could hear him whooping it up. He wasn't so thrilled after landing. Very different attitude. Poor bastard. -the artist formerly known as sinker

wmw999 2,588 #6 March 24, 2003 Last year we had a woman at the DZ doing a tandem. Summertime in Houston. She was a Muslima, wearing dark long sleeves and a headscarf. Her husband didn't jump, and she was cool as a cucumber, smiling away. It's fun to watch people step outside of stereotypes like that -- I'd've liked to have seen the Israeli students, too. mouth 0 #7 March 24, 2003 Cool...another "cool" person to hang out with Memorial Day. I am so looking forward to that trip. The funny thing is probably all of us have messed up a count. I know I did Sat. The King air makes it hard to see your leg so you have to do chest movements and I just don't get it....obviously. Thankfully the one with video I got right. WAHOOWe had some very interesting people at the DZ Sat. One couple where the guy jumped but the girl didn't was hysterical. She looked like a prune cause she really didn't want him to go. The guy got to do a sunset tandem on a beautiful sunset that seemed to hover on the horizon. He had a blast and she was just even more pissed it seemed. I bet he comes back.....without her. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit.
Islandcool 0 #8 March 24, 2003 Quotefun to watch people step outside of stereotype Yeah it's pretty great. Not everyone can skydive but I swear if they can figure out how to get you strapped in you're going! I've seen some pretty great stuff. A paraplegic, 80 year olds, Sorority girls with pom poms and spatulas to scrape their friend off the ground, and my personal hero..the guy with brain cancer. The guy with brain cancer... I remember feeling sorry for him. I saw the scars on his head from the operations he had. Then I realized I only felt sorry for him because I knew what I'd be doing if I had his condition. I would be full of self pity, depressed and waiting to die. This guy was out living large...no need to feel pity for him. A friend once asked me if I knew tomorrow was my last day what would I do. When I seriously thought about it I told him. He said ok so when are you going to start doing them? What are you waiting for? I've done most of the things I've thought about. I feel great for doing them too. But it's Mon morning so let's not get to heavy. Memorial day is going to be great. I gotta go borrow a tent. Blue skies and cheers! SkyDolphin 0 #9 March 24, 2003 We had an Indian guy come out to the dz to do a static line once. They had him on radio but I guess his English wasn't so good. Not only did he not land anywhere near the student landing area but he managed to land himself on the roof of one of the buildings and got the canopy caught on an antenna. Let me tell you, the DZO who just happened to be on radio with him was pissed off but man was it funny. R
Islandcool 0 #10 March 24, 2003 QuoteI guess his English wasn't so good We get a lot of foreign students that go through AFF. I always wonder if the totally understand everything but they always do ok. Landing on a roof tho....too funny. Ed

I am from the very Jewish part of Pittsburgh and lived all my life next to Orthodox neighbours. After their jump I talked to them and they said that their Father would kill them if he knew.
