A skydiving tale....

Recommended Posts

I would have mentioned this sooner but I have been out sick all week with some freaky flu bug thingy. Anyway, last Friday I did a sunset jump onto the beach between Santa Cruz and Monterey. We jumped in front of the Seascape resort in Aptos to be precise. A most epic beautiful sunset jump it was. Just five of us out of a Cessna from 13.5 K (Pretty high for a cessna!)B|. Well there we are celebrating on the beach with others who had gathered to party as well, mini bon fire and all. The sun quickly slipped over the horizon after we landed. Not to long afterwards we noticed a Coast Guard super dooper somethin or other helicopter cruisin up and down the beach with a very bright spotlight. At first we thought nothing of it. Well until someone errantly misplaced a bottle of Crown Royal. We tried to illicit the help of the Coast Guard chopper and their super bright spotlight to help locate the lost bottle. To no avail, they where too busy searching the surf for something. Eventually we started wondering what was up. Then someone’s phone was heard ringing. It was the DZO!!! Apparently a private single engine pilot in the area had seen four… yup four skydivers “PLUMMET” into the ocean. And did their duty by calling the coast guard and reporting the incident. Well the Coast Gaurd immediately hopped in their super dooper "expensive" chopper and fleww the the scene immediately. While this was happening they had found the DZ the flight plan and Notam had been filed through and eventually found the DZO at his home. We watched the chopper fly around searching the surf another hour after the DZO notified that all jumpers where safe…. Cruised around for a total of three hours approx. Never did help us find our lost bottle of Crown though…:P

Oh well but a skydiving story none the less…B|B|
