Grandma has Squamous Cell Cancer on her right leg.

It is very treatable, because it has been extensively studied for a long time. I used to work with SCC cells at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute back in '87-1990. Platinum-based alkylating agents and anti-folates were pretty effective. Alkylating agents were developed in the '70s and anti-folates a bit later.

I don't know what's available now, but I would imagine that it should be even better now. These days they often use some combination of chemotherapy and then later cell or gene-based therapy to clean up the last bits.

(And just to piss off all the PETA fans, most of the advances took place as a result of in vivo testing in mice. So if you wanna "save the mice" and end all animal testing, think of the cost for humans, if you care.:P)
