But I have a few questions for some that have been before and stayed the entire week. 1) How much money would be advisable to bring with me? A rough estimate would be fine including for food beer and jumps. Where to stay is pretty much set thanx to Skygod (kelley) I dont have to sleep in my small ass tent for a week. BUt most of all who here is sure they are going cause I wanna jump with as many people as possible this year. Kris 0 #2 March 28, 2003 Dude, it's a jumper's paradise. It is no problem to get on organized loads. There are full-time, already-comp'd LO's there ready to work with everyone from newbies to old-timer's. Both RW & FF. I did a couple of loads with Brian Germain last year and he's just one of those people that's just happy to help. As are most of the low-pressure LO's there. It's no problem to go to the loading area at times and get in on smaller loads with others either. Jump tix are usually around $18 for the Skyvan, CASA's, Otter & Mullins King Air. Food is reasonable but plan to bring a lot of cash for gatorade & water. IL in August is murder. Beer is free every night. This year I'm bringing about $2500 for jump tickets alone!It's your life, live it! mdowling 0 #8 March 28, 2003 I rifled through at least $1,800 in jumps alone last year. Nine days at the convention, 70 jumps including C-130, balloon, helicopter, biplane, and high-altitude. And as for the drive, My drive is from Macon, GA to Rantoul. Buy at least one 10 pack so you can start right away. basically, you show up, sign your waiver, then you get a packet with your tickets and your wristband, then you're on your way. Brokeneagle 0 #21 March 29, 2003 We pre-registered, paid for it and went ahead and bought a ten-pack of regular tickets, along with my biplane ticket and our helicopter tickets over the internet; the pre-registration and prepay of tickets meant we had practically no lines to wait in- very good experience. akaGQ 0 #22 March 29, 2003 I wish I knew how long it would take for me to drive there cause I have 2 options to drive up after I get off of work thursday which would be around 7pm meaning Id leave around 8 or nine and drive till I cant drive anymore and then show up about mid afternoon or get rest and try and make a really long drive up friday morning.According to my map program Im look at 12 hours and 14 minutes but thats without traffic as in like thats really gonna happen but it seems like pretty much a straight shot from here. We drove from Jacksonville's north side and made it in a little over 15 hours actuall driving time. We'll do the same this year, leave when Lynn gets home from work about 1500 and drive to somewhere around Paducah, Kentucky, pull into a rest area and sleep, then finish the drive the next day. Works great. Just subtract the distance from Jax, FL to your place to figure out your drive time. It is interstate all the way to Rantoul, and that really makes it handy.
