POW Rescue

Recommended Posts

Well that is Awesome!!:)
The one thing that quickly came to my mind if the intel is that good that they were able to pinpoint the location and get her out, I would have to think that a good chunk off the other intel may be good as well. The worldwide press and even in some cases the US press is quick to question the information that the military hints at. I have to say that maybe this will lead people to think a good chunk of it is pretty damn good!

That is a bit of good news for today though!

CNN just said she was rescued in a hospital near nasyera (sp??) and had multiple gunshot wounds. That is all I have heard on the news. They are also speculating that the "Battle of Bagdad" is starting... that easly could be total speculation on the news's part though.

"However, CNN reported that Lynch suffered multiple gunshot wounds during the rescue. Her condition was said to be stable. "

That sucks. Hey, at least she's alive. I hate to say it but I don't think the prisoners have odds in their favor as our forces corner SH.

I think she was pretty lucky. There are other rumors that more soldiers' bodies were found at the same location.

Just confirmed by MSNBC that "several American soldiers' bodies were found at the same location". They are not saying which unit or whose bodies they were.

There are 22 currently held as POWs or "whereabouts unknown".

As to the Battle of Baghdad, at least one regiment is on the way, and has bridged the Tigris river.

Us Army Rangers and Navy SEALs are reported to have rescued Army PFC Jessica Lynch today. She had been taken prisoner on 23 Mar as part of the 507th Maintenance Bn that was captured.

GREAT JOB MEN, GO GET THE REST!!!

I was listening to National People's Radio this morning during the drive to work (I only switched to it because the local FM station that carries the Beeb's mid-day news program has a weak transmitter and I get out of range of their signal after about 15 miles), and I heard nothing about the superb intel, planning, initiative, boldness, etc that resulted in the PFC being liberated. Instead, I heard a feminist diatribe about how American female POWs were treated "the same" during PGW1, preceded by more talking-head criticism of the war plan from "experts". >:(

That's funny, I listened to the same interview, and the "feminist diatribe" came from a retired US Navy Captain.

I guess you weren't paying attention very well. You might want to do some research to find out exactly who the source of that "feminist diatribe" was. I think you'll be surprised.

The name escaped me, but I think it was a retired female Navy Captain in the DC area.

The point of my post was how totally off-topic National People's Radio went in an effort to downplay the action and use it as a vehicle for feminist rhetoric.

It wasn't Col Rhonda Cornum. She's still on active duty.

Yeah that is awesome news, but it just makes me cringe to think about the torturing they did to her.. how much of the broken legs, broken arm, gunshot wounds were done during the capture and how much of it was done during the torture :(

she will probably have nightmares for many years.. such a crappy situation

I have no doubt she's being debriefed, and the information will be used to find and eventually whack the perps. There will be some lists of names and there will be "special attention" given to those on it. >:(

Exactly! Why couldn't they have gotten a more patriotic expert like Geraldo Rivera to explain how women are treated as POW's? He is clearly more qualified than she is to discuss such things.

NPR doesn't try to be an up-to-the-minute all-news-all-the-time station. It's not really part of their charter. They instead pick an interesting (to them) facet from the day's news and go into it. They've done it for years.

Edited to add: Kind of like doing windows isn't in my charter :)
